Compact Honda FourTrax Recon Light-Utility ATV Returns For 2027
Honda is bringing back its compact, lightweight FourTrax Recon utility-recreational ATV for 2027. Described as a cornerstone of Honda’s ATV lineup, the Recon continues to be a solid match for landowners, ranchers, and outdoor enthusiasts seeking reliability and easy handling. The ATV is well-suited for hauling light loads such as firewood and tools, checking fence lines, and spraying weeds, as well as weekend hunting, fishing, and trail-riding adventures.
“Honda’s FourTrax lineup has long been trusted by riders who depend on their machines every day, whether for getting work done or exploring the outdoors,” says Colin Miller, American Honda manager of experiential marketing. “With the 2027 models, we’re continuing that tradition—offering a range of capable, dependable ATVs that combine proven engineering with the versatility and durability our customers expect.”

The 2027 FourTrax ATV lineup also includes the Rancher, Foreman 4x4, Foreman Rubicon 4x4, and Rubicon 700 4x4 Automatic models. First introduced for the 1997 model year, the Recon is available for 2027 in Hero Red and Black Forest Green color options and remains available in two transmission types.
The standard Recon uses a semi-automatic, 5-speed-plus-reverse foot-shift gearbox, while the Recon ES features Honda’s Electric Shift Program (ESP) for push-button shifting. For added convenience, the reverse mechanism and parking brake are mounted on the left side of the handlebar, allowing for operation without removing hands from the grips.
Both Recon configurations are expected to be available in October.
The Recon’s Compact Design
The Recon measures 75 inches (190.5 centimeters) long, 40.7 in. (103.3 cm) wide, and 42.1 in. (107 cm) tall. It has a 44.5-in. (113-cm) wheelbase, a 31.2-in. (79-cm) seat height, and provides 6 in. (15 cm) of ground clearance, all contributing to the ATV’s rider-friendly size and maneuverability.
Powering the ATV is an air-cooled 229cc engine featuring an overhead-valve, semi-dry-sump design, which Honda says contributes to the vehicle’s compactness and results in excellent ground clearance, a low center of gravity, and predictable handling. The chassis uses an independent double-wishbone front suspension with 5.1 in. (130 millimeters) of travel and a rear swingarm with a single shock delivering 4.9 in. (124 mm) of travel.
