2025 BMW F 900 R & F 900 XR Get Updated Looks & Features
BMW Motorrad has unveiled updated versions of its midrange F 900 R roaster and F 900 XR sport crossover motorcycles for 2025. The bikes' more compelling new features include upside-down 43-millimeter forks with adjustable rebound, compression, and spring preload.
Both bikes also come with a longer list of standard features, including safety-enhancing Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), MSR Engine Drag Torque Control, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), and the BMW ABS Pro braking system.
“Even More Attractive”
Newcomers and experienced riders alike are candidates for these 2025 models. BMW says the F 900 R provides a sportier ride, while the F 900 XR is primed for both quick rides across town and long tour rides.
BMW Project Manager Anton Huber says BMW also made the bikes more fetching. Both motorcycles are available in optional Triple Black and Sport color schemes, but the F 900 R boasts a standard Snapper Rocks Blue Metallic scheme, and the F 900 XR comes in a Racing Red scheme.
"With a significantly extended range of standard equipment, fully adjustable upside-down forks, lighter wheels, and a weight saving of 6.6 pounds, we have been able to make the BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR even more attractive,” says Huber.
Hitting An Emotional Note
The telescopic forks’ adjustability means riders can tailor them to their preferences, operating conditions, and load conditions. The F 900 R’s front suspension provides 5.3 inches (13.5 centimeters) of travel, and the F 900 XR’s 6.7 in. (17 cm). Both bikes have 17-in. (43.2-cm) cast-aluminum wheels that are nearly 4 lbs. (1.8 kilograms) lighter than the previous versions, which BMW says provide better acceleration, braking, and handling.
A water-cooled, 2-cylinder, 4-valve inline engine with 895-cc displacement powers each motorcycle. The power plant produces 105 maximum horsepower (78 kilowatts) and 68.6 pounds-foot (93 newton-meters) of torque. BMW claims the engine emits a “very emotional exhaust note” and offers a new sports silencer available as a genuine BMW Motorrad accessory via a collaboration with Akrapovič that produces an even more “expressive” exhaust sound.
An Ergonomic Triangle Redesign
Despite the bikes having much in common—including a 1.7-lb (0.8-kg) lighter battery, a new rear end with function-integrated turn indicator lights, and an optional Dynamic Riding mode with new settings—there are differences worth noting. The F 900 XR boasts optimized front fairing aerodynamics, leading to greater touring capability and comfort, says BMW. The bike also has a redesigned wind deflector and a Headlight Pro adaptive headlight for enhanced safety during night rides.
The 2025 F 900 R's "ergonomic triangle" has a redesigned, farther forward handlebar and updated footrests and foot levers situated farther back, all combining to create a more forward-leaning, aggressive riding posture.
