Triumph Trident 660 Triple Tribute Special-Edition Roadster Honors Legendary ‘Slippery Sam’
The Triumph Trident “Slippery Sam” is legendary within motorcycle racing circles for winning five straight Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) races from 1971 to 1975. Triumph is honoring that iconic 750-cc racer with the special-edition Trident 660 Triple Tribute, a recently announced model year 2025 version of its popular Trident 660 naked roadster. Among other features, the tribute bike sports the “67” graphic emblazoned on Slippery Sam decades ago.
The Trident 660 Stands Apart
Triumph Motorcycles CCO Paul Stroud says Triumph has sold more than 35,600 Trident 660s since launching the bike in 2020. “Its triple engine and premium detailing at a great price has been successful in bringing younger and new riders to Triumph, and just as ‘Slippery Sam’ once inspired a generation, we believe this special edition has the iconic style, extra technology, and dynamic performance to appeal to today’s Triumph fans,” he says.
Get It While You Can
The tribute bike, which will only be available for one year, features several tasty special-edition features. These include a contemporary version of Triumph’s white, blue, and red racing scheme, with a color-matching fly screen and belly pan. Triumph designed the scheme to appeal to new Triumph fans. Buyers can customize the bike with up to 32 accessories, including a quick-release tank bag and tail pack.
Buyers will also appreciate that the triple-engine bike comes standard with Triumph Shift-Assist, quick-shifter technology that enables clutchless gear changes, and Bluetooth connectivity. These join numerous other technologies, including Road and Rain riding modes, switchable traction control, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), and a key with a built-in engine immobilizer for security.
Triple-Engine Power
The Triple Tribute draws power from a Euro 5-compliant, liquid-cooled, 12-valve, inline 3-cylinder engine rated for 80 peak horsepower (59-kilowatt) at 10,250 rpm and 47 pounds-foot (64 newton-meters) of peak torque at 6,250 rpm. Triumph mounts the power plant to a dedicated steel tubular chassis and matches it to a 6-speed gearbox.
Lightweight components like 17-inch (432-millimeter) cast aluminum sport wheels contribute to the bike's user-friendly 417-pound (189-kilogram) wet weight. The bike also provides what Triumph says is class-leading handling thanks to a narrow profile, comfortable footpeg positions, its 31.7-in. (805-mm) seat height, upside-down Showa forks with 4.7 in. (119 mm) of travel, and a pre-adjustable Showa monoshock rear suspension with 5.3 in. (134.6 mm) of travel.
