Honda has returned the flagship Africa Twin to its adventure motorcycle lineup for 2024 in standard and Adventure Sports ES configurations. Both versions include suspension, chassis, engine, technology, and styling updates. Each comes with a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional high-tech dual-clutch transmission (DTC).

The Honda Africa Twin Up Close

All Africa Twin variants will be available in May. Each receives power from a twin-cylinder 1,084-cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke 22.5-degree parallel-twin engine with Honda’s exclusive Unicam design. Honda says the engine has a compact cylinder head and is narrower overall, which allows for optimal engine placement, a shorter wheelbase, and more—the result is better performance, both on- and off-road.

The standard Africa Twin sports a flashy Grand Prix Red color scheme and is ideal for serious off-road riders. Honda equips it with a fully adjustable, inverted Showa fork with 45-millimeter tubes and a class-leading 9 inches (229 mm) of front-wheel travel. The Pro-Link rear suspension system has a single Showa shock and 8.7 in. (221 mm) of travel.

Honda Africa Twin Configurations & Customizations

The Africa Twin configurations share numerous features, including support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control functionality to make long-distance touring rides more relaxing, and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). The latter provides seven settings to match pavement, singletrack, or other riding conditions.

Riders can set the adjustable seat to either its 34.3-in. (871-mm) standard height or its 33.5-in. (851-mm) low height position, and the bike’s new windscreen offers five height adjustments for proper wind protection for riders of all sizes.

The Africa Twin Sport ES boasts White Pearl paint and emphasizes long-distance, on-road touring. It comes equipped with a 1-gallon (3.8-liter)-larger fuel tank capacity, has heated handgrips, an aluminum rear carrier, and lower 33.7-in. (856-mm) standard and 32.9-in. (835-cm) low seat positions for better on-road handling.

Honda also gives the bike cornering lights, a 19-in. (48.3-cm) front wheel with a wider rim, and a Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment (EERA) suspension with five damper settings and a User setting that riders can adjust to their liking.

    Motorcycle “Transmission Of The Future”

Honda says the Africa Twin’s DTC is the “transmission of the future.” In addition to automatic shifting, it provides manual shifting control via paddle shifters. Riders can choose from Drive and Sport 1, 2, and 3 settings to match riding conditions. There’s also a G Switch to reduce clutch slip while throttling to enhance off-road control.

The manufacturer includes two Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) modes for on- and off-road riding. A third setting lets you turn the rear ABS off when you want to carve up dirt trails.
