2024 Glide Touring Motorcycles Propel Harley-Davidson Into New Era
Harley-Davidson says the new models in its 2024 touring motorcycle lineup are its most enticing touring bikes ever and usher in a new era of touring performance, technology, and design for the iconic Motor Company.
The bikes include the all-new Street Glide and Road Glide, both with a new Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine, and the 2024 CVO Road Glide ST. The latter commemorates the Custom Vehicle Operations collection’s 25th anniversary and has a new Milwaukee-Eight 121 High Output (HO) engine. Harley-Davidson says this beauty is its quickest, fastest, and most sophisticated performance bagger ever.
Lighter, More Powerful Harleys
The company says shaving pounds off the 2024 Street Glide and Road Glide enhanced acceleration, braking, and other performance capabilities. The Road Glide is 16 pounds (7.25 kilograms) lighter, and the Street Glide is 18 lbs (8.16 kg) lighter vs. their 2023 Glide Special predecessors.
Each model’s beefier power plant employs new liquid-cooled cylinder heads for enhanced thermal optimization. The engine also boasts 117 cubic inches (1,917 cubic centimeters) of displacement, 130 pounds-foot (176 newton-meters) of torque at 3,250 rpm, and 105 horsepower (78 kilowatts) at 4,600 rpm, all increases.
Riders can select from Road, Sport, Rain, and Custom ride modes to match riding conditions, and Harley-Davidson says each mode combines power delivery, engine braking, cornering antilock braking system (C-ABS), and cornering traction control system (C-TCS) settings.
Updates To Iconic Fairings
The Road Glide and Street Glide offer eight color choices and white or black trim. Both bikes feature improved aerodynamics that the company says reduce subjective helmet buffeting by an average of 60% at highway speed. Harley-Davidson also increased rear suspension travel by 3 in. (76.2 millimeters), redesigned the 1-piece seat, and made other design tweaks for added comfort.
As in the past, the bikes have distinct fairing designs. The Street Glide’s batwing fairing incorporates LED lighting, a split-stream vent opening, and a sculpted silhouette. The Road Glide’s sharknose fairing has a new windshield design. The company says reimagining and refining every surface of the motorcycles results in a “seamless visual flow” from the front fender’s tip to the tails of the saddlebags.
Anniversary Graphics
The CVO collection is the “pinnacle of factory custom” and provides best-in-class performance, premier parts, accessories, and more, the company says. For CVO’s 25th anniversary, the 2024 CVO Road Glide ST has special graphics on the outer fairing and the engraved tank console insert.
Customers can choose between premium Golden White Pearl or Raven Metallic colors. The Screamin’ Eagle graphic on the fairing sides and fuel tank takes inspiration from the Screamin’ Eagle Harley-Davidson Factory motorcycles that saw action in the MotoAmerica Mission King of the Baggers series.
Prepped For Performance
The CVO Road Glide ST includes racing-inspired, high-performance suspension and brakes. Its new V-twin engine generates 127 HP (95 kW) and 145 lbf-ft (196 N-m) of torque, which the company says are the highest-ever outputs from a factory-installed engine in one of its production motorcycles.
Harley-Davidson didn’t stop there. A deep solo seat and a new 6-in. (15.2-cm) handlebar riser with a moto handlebar help put the rider in a more upright position and create a “West Coast” custom style. All three bikes put several Skyline OS-powered infotainment technologies within easy reach, but the CVO Road Glide has a 4-channel, 500-watt RMS amplifier to power its Rockford Fosgate Stage II premium audio system vs. the other bikes’ 200-W amplifier.
