Suzuki’s Burgman 400 Urban Scooter Makes Getting There Half The Fun
Blue wheels add a splash of color to the tongue-twisting Metallic Matte Sword Silver paint scheme on Suzuki’s Burgman 400. The premium scooter provides responsive, comfortable urban mobility to riders of all experience levels. Its Easy Start System, Traction Control, and other rider aids aim to build confidence and reassurance on trips around town.
Charge Mobile Devices On The Go
The Burgman 400 has a 400-cc engine, a 29.7-inch (755-millimeter) seat height, and a curb weight of 481 pounds (218 kilograms). Its updated instrument cluster informs the rider how much range to expect from the fuel remaining in its 3.6-gallon (13.5-liter) tank, along with how much fuel the engine is using in real time. The latter can clue the rider in on subtle changes to their driving style that can pay off in better fuel economy. The fuel-injected engine starts up at the press of a button.
This Suzuki has LED lighting fore and aft. Its dual headlights have integrated position lights, and its rear combination taillight includes turn signal lamps on either side. There is a DC power outlet in each of the bike’s two small front compartments, which measure 2.8 and 3.5 L (171 and 214 cubic inches) in volume. Under the scooter’s seat is a roomy, 42-L (1.48-cubic-foot) storage compartment with enough space to stow two helmets, making the Burgman 400 more than just a single-rider, work-week vehicle. Its two-up seat has an adjustable backrest for longer rides, as well as ergonomic grab bars and fold-down rear footrests for a passenger.
Safety & Ride Quality
Suzuki upsized the Burgman 400’s cast front wheel from 14 to 15 in. (356 to 381 mm) in diameter for greater curb appeal and superb handling. The rider can assert control with dual 10.2-in. (260-mm) disc brake rotors on the leading wheel and an 8.3-in. (210-mm) disc on the 13-in. (330-mm) rear rim. The scooter’s new anti-lock brake system (ABS) controller is 0.8 lbs (0.36 kg) lighter than the previous unit.
The front fork on the Burgman 400 is an oil-damped, telescopic piece with 41-mm inner tubes and an ample 4.3 in. (109 mm) of wheel travel. The mono-shock, link-type rear suspension promotes motorcycle-like handling and maneuverability, according to Suzuki. Both front and rear suspensions are moderated by optimized coil springs.
Smooth CVT Power Delivery
The liquid-cooled, single-cylinder 400-cc engine in the Burgman 400 generates strong low-speed response, while its DOHC, 4-valve design hints at mid- to upper-rpm performance. Suzuki’s dual-spark ignition system, iridium spark plugs, and a well-chosen camshaft grind contribute to the bike’s fuel economy and compliance with worldwide emissions standards.
The scooter puts its power to the pavement with a fully automatic continuously variable transmission. The CVT supplies seamless, linear thrust to a V-belt final drive for a controllable and comfortable riding experience at any speed. Accessories for the Burgman 400 include a top case, a taller windshield, and Suzuki logo apparel.
