Suzuki’s GSX-S1000GT & GSX-S1000GT+ Sport Touring Bikes Return For 2024
Suzuki is bringing back its GSX-S1000GT and GSX-S1000GT+ Grand Touring sport bikes for 2024. The bikes are powered by a 999-cc engine based on the one in Suzuki’s GSX-R1000. The GSX-S1000GT sports a Glass Sparkle Black paint job and offers a touring windshield and 0.9-cubic-foot (25.5-liter) side cases as options. The GSX-S1000GT+ is available in either Glass Sparkle Black or Suzuki’s new Candy Daring Red color and includes the side cases as a standard feature.
Options Worth Considering
Although both bikes include a standard windshield, the optional Touring Windscreen is 2.75 inches (70 millimeters) taller and arches forward, reducing airflow to the driver and, if present, a passenger. Suzuki says large windshields are usually hot-stamped, but this one is injection-molded to maintain optical clarity despite its special shape.
The optional side cases are large enough to hold most full-face helmets. Riders can easily clip them on and off and attach color-matched lid panels to them if desired. They can also set lock tumblers for the cases to their bike’s ignition key for convenience when opening or disengaging their quick-release mechanism.
Rider-Assisting Systems
Suzuki promises smooth, consistent power across a wide power band from the bikes’ 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, dual-overhead-camshaft (DOHC), in-line 4-cylinder power plant. Fluid shifting and engine braking also await thanks to the included Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS), as does quick and easy shifting without the clutch or throttle thanks to the Quick Shift system.
Quick Shift is one of several systems comprising the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS). Another is the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS), which provides three engine power output modes, and the Low RPM Assist System that minimizes stalling during take-offs and enhances control and operation in stop-and-go traffic. SIRS also consists of the Ride-by-Wire Electronic Throttle System, Cruise Control System, and 5-mode Advanced Traction Control System. The latter monitors several performance parameters to prevent unwanted rear wheel spin and help maintain traction and power delivery to the wheels.
Standout Features
Both bikes are teeming with features designed to make operation easier and provide greater comfort. An easy-to-read, brightness-adjustable 6.5-in. display panel connects to a smartphone and can pair with various Bluetooth helmet communication systems. Riders can access real-time data about the bike’s operation from the panel, as well as their contacts, maps, music, and more.
Several features, including the twin-spar aluminum frame and superbike-braced swingarm, introduce comfort and handling benefits. The trellis-style subframe is visually stunning and supports a thick seat that’s more comfortable for extended rides, says Suzuki. The cast-aluminum handlebar has a comfortable reach and includes vibration-reducing rubber mounts, as do the footrests.
