Bring ‘Em Along For The Ride With Honda’s 4-Seat Talon 1000R-4 Fox Live Valve UTV
Recently Honda introduced a new addition to its Talon family of 999-cc sport UTVs, namely the 1000R-4 Fox Live Valve, along with a host of improvements to all its Talon models with the self-adjusting suspension option. The new Talon 1000R-4 Fox Live Valve side-by-side pairs the 4-seat cabin of the Talon 1000X-4 with a wider, longer stance and greater suspension travel for high-speed cruising over open terrain.
"The side-by-side experience is all about enjoying the outdoors with good company, and this new version makes that possible for a broader spectrum of enthusiasts," says Brandon Wilson, American Honda manager of sports and experiential. “We've listened carefully to dealer and customer feedback and the strategic upgrades that we've applied to all of the trim levels in the Talon 1000 Fox Live Valve lineup contribute to an elevated riding experience for drivers and passengers alike."
Fox Live Valve Updates
Honda has made comfort, styling, and suspension improvements to each of its Fox Live Valve versions of the Talon, including new Pearl Red and Matte Navy Blue color options. A new, more responsive power steering unit delivers 87% more torque assist and comes with a return-to-center function. Honda updated the Talon’s ignition mapping for smooth, powerful acceleration. A new aluminum wheel design wears new Kenda tires with thicker sidewalls to protect against pinch flats and punctures.
Talons with Fox Live Valve also receive LED headlights and full-coverage doors to improve cabin sealing and keep out tire spray and mud. Each door has a cup holder that fits most insulated tumblers and bottles of various diameters, complete with a retention device to keep beverages in place. The doors also feature new interior storage compartments with net covers.
Accessories are now easier to install on the front of Talon Fox Live Valve models, thanks to a new, second electrical grounding point in addition to the existing ground on the rear of the vehicle. Honda has released 12 new accessories compatible with the Talon including over fenders, rear splash guards, rear speaker pods, a subwoofer, a dome light, a GPS unit, a heater, a switch plate with USB outlet, an Axon winch, a busbar, a fuse box, and a rear reflector guard.
Powertrain & Specifications
The Fox Live Valve self-adjusting suspension automatically tweaks each Fox Podium shock absorber’s damping level on the fly with a sampling rate of 200 times per second. Fox Live Valve’s active adjustments attenuate the vehicle’s bottoming, lateral roll, and longitudinal pitch motions according to user-selected Normal or Sport settings.
The Talon family shares a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, OHC, parallel-twin Unicam 999-cc engine with four valves per cylinder. The fuel-injected motor has an electric starter and is matched with a 6-speed, automatic Dual Clutch Transmission. A dash-mounted switch can change between two- and four-wheel drive at any time. Honda’s i-4WD technology improves traction as needed.
The Talon 1000R-4 Fox Live Valve has a long-travel suspension—17.7 inches (450 millimeters) in front and 20.1 in. (511 mm) in the rear—and a 68.1-in. (1,730-mm) overall width. The UTV has a 118.7-in. (3,015-mm) wheelbase and a curb weight of 1,843 pounds (836 kilograms).
