BMW Redefines The Urban Ride With New CE 02
BMW’s latest foray into motor sports is hard to define. The company says its new CE 02 is not an e-motorbike or an e-scooter, instead dubbing it an “eParkourer,” a reference to the sport of parkour in which participants run, climb, and leap their way around obstacles to find the most efficient route. Whatever you call it, the CE 02 is designed to be tough and nimble to navigate urban environments and is unlike anything on the market in electric mobility.
Ride In Style
The CE 02’s unique design features disc wheels that emphasize proportions and black for the frame, wheels, front fender, and triple clamp fairing with granite grey metallic matte on the motor cover. An optional Highline package is available, which adds forks anodized in gold with a contrasting petrol color. The CE 02 has a low seat height of 29.5 inches (749 millimeters) on a steel frame with a single-sided rear swingarm.
The CE 02 is powered by two 48-volt, 1.96-kilowatt-hour air-cooled lithium-ion batteries and generates 11 kilowatts (15 horsepower) of maximum power and 40.6 pounds-foot (55 newton-meters) of torque. The bike comes standard with Flow and Surf riding modes, with a third mode, Flash, as part of the optional Highline package. The CE 02 has a top speed of 59 mph (95 km/h) and a range of over 56 miles (90 kilometers). A 0.9-kilowatt external charger that uses standard household outlets comes standard with the CE 02, but a quicker 1.5-kW charger is available with the Highline package that reduces charging time from 170 minutes to 140.
Everything Riders Need
BMW displays the CE 02’s speed, battery charge, and other information on a 3.5-inch handlebar-mounted TFT display that is equipped with a USB-C port for charging a smartphone. The Highline package’s Cradle mode allows the rider to use the BMW Motorrad app on their smartphone, placed in a holder, as an additional display controlled by the keypad on the handlebar.
"With the CE 02, we are striving for something new at BMW Motorrad and want to be pioneers once again,” says Edgar Heinrich, Head of BMW Motorrad Design. “Thanks to its unusual proportions and striking graphics, the new CE 02 is an uncomplicated, youthful form of single-track mobility. The reduced design language stands for lightness and fun. The focus is not on utility, but on emotional appeal, riding pleasure and uncomplicated, almost intuitive use."
