All-New Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition Speaks To The Supersport Soul
The 2023 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition combines light maneuverability for navigating city streets with high-level supersport handling for zipping around racetracks, Kawasaki says. The bike, which comes in sporty light green and ebony colors, boasts numerous new features, including a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, 16-valve 399-cc engine that musters up powerful low-to-midrange torque for city riding and high-rpm power for track riding. A new chassis design with high-tensile steel construction incorporates feedback gathered from Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT) members during the FIM World Superbike Championship.
One Cool Engine
To achieve peak engine performance, Kawasaki focused on the power plant’s cooling system, down to details like the water jackets on the cylinder head and using long-reach spark plugs to create greater contact with the water jackets and prevent engine knocking. The cooling system uses a patented radiator fan cover situated behind a 30-row radiator to steer hot air away from the rider for greater comfort. A heat management system designed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis further enhances comfort by keeping the tank, frame, and other rider-contact points cooler.
The centrally positioned Ram Air intake duct system, which is common to Ninja ZX models, boosts engine performance at all engine speeds by increasing air pressure and providing cooler air, all while exuding a high-performance aesthetic, Kawasaki says. The six-speed transmission that works with the engine has a dual-direction Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) and excels at accelerating out of corners during sport or track riding, Kawasaki says. The Assist & Slipper clutch, meanwhile, provides benefits like lighter clutch lever pull and prevents rear tire hopping or skidding.
Other New Features
In addition to new Sport, Road, Rain, and manual Rider modes, the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition has new dual 290-millimeter semi-floating disc brakes with 4-piston radial-mount monobloc calipers to ensure excellent braking capability. Also new is the 37-mm inverted front fork that uses Showa Separate Function Fork-Big Piston technology and provides spring rate and damping traits developed specifically for the bike. The rear horizontal back-link suspension is mounted to a specially tuned Showa Balance Free Rear Cushion (BFRC) Lite shock and is similar to the one on the Ninja ZX-10R.
Customers will also find a new LED lighting package comprising twin headlights, front turn signals, a taillight, rear turn signals, and a license plate bulb for improved visibility all around the bike. Finally, a new 4.3-inch all-digital TFT color instrument panel lets users selectable a preferred background and text colors while automatically adjusting screen brightness. The Circuit mode makes it easier for riders to see the lap time, gear position, and tachometer display during track riding. There’s also new support for connecting devices to the bike’s instrument panel using Kawasaki’s Rideology app.
