Harley-Davidson’s Powerful Breakout Cruiser Returns With A Larger Fuel Tank & Optional Traction Control For 2023
As Harley-Davidson celebrates its 120th year of production, it’s time for us to take a closer look at one of the 2023 model year motorcycles the iconic company announced in January. The V-Twin-powered Breakout performance cruiser makes a return to the North America market with new styling that simply exudes power. The Breakout combines classic chopper lines with modern ride and handling characteristics.
The Mighty Milwaukee-Eight 117
Based on Harley-Davidson’s Softail chassis, the Breakout is crafted around a 117-cubic inch (1,917-cc) Milwaukee-Eight V-Twin, offering the most torque and displacement of Harley’s factory engines.
Among the Breakout’s new features for 2023 is a new, 5-gallon (19-liter) fuel tank for greater range and longer intervals between fuel-ups. The bigger tank conspires with the shape of a low-profile console to elongate the bike’s profile, the manufacturer says.
Chrome, Chrome, Chrome
It’s easier now for the rider to reach the Breakout’s controls with a 0.75-inch (19-millimeter) taller handlebar on a new riser. The stainless-steel handlebar has a polished finish, echoed by the chrome of the console. The bike’s mirrors, turn signals, Heavy Breather intake, muffler shields, side covers, and rear fender supports all get the beautiful chrome treatment as well. Likewise, the machined highlights in the Breakout’s new cast-aluminum, 26-spoke wheels stand out in contrast with their gloss black luster.
Electronic cruise control comes standard on the Breakout for the 2023 model year, with traction control as a new option. The latter limits rear wheel spin under heavy acceleration. In the event that you feel the urge to trade hard launch grip for tire smoke, there’s a button on the hand control to turn the traction control system off.
