Honda’s Retro-Styled 2022 Trail125 Equipped For Recreational Riding
Honda introduced the Trail 90 in 1964, and the off-road utility bike and its successors would go on to acquaint riders of all ages to the joys of recreational trail rides. The affordable and beginner-friendly Trail 90, which featured a semi-automatic transmission, would add turn signals in 1974 and become a street-legal, dual-sport bike. Subsequent models like the Trail 70 mini-bike and Trail 110 added features like front and rear lighting, handling improvements, and more usable power. The utility of Honda’s CT-series bikes also contributed to its popularity among campers, hunters, and ranchers. Honda reintroduced the CT series trail bikes in 2021 with the Trail125, and it’s back for 2022.
Classic Look, Modern Features
Riders nostalgic for original Honda CT Trail bikes will note that the new Honda Trail125’s appearance evokes the iconic features of the Trail 90 and Trail 110. There’s a luggage rack on the back, simplifying hauling for campers and ranchers, and a generous step-through section for easy mounting and dismounting. The intake and exhaust sit high up on the frame to prevent the engine from ingesting water when crossing streams, and the four-speed automatic transmission lets riders shift with their left foot without using a clutch. Modern and practical elements of the Trail125 include front-wheel ABS, a fuel-injected 125-cc engine, and an electric starter.
Take It Off-Road
The Trail125 is built around a reinforced steel chassis and features a rugged skid plate. The high ground clearance and suspension, which includes a 27-millimeter telescopic front fork with 3.9 inches (99 mm) of travel and a twin shock rear suspension with 3.4 in. (86 mm) of travel, further enhances the bike’s off-road capabilities. And with a curb weight of just 259 pounds (117.5 kilograms) including 1.4 gallons (5.3 liters) of gas, the Trail125 offers the agility of a lightweight machine. The Trail125 can also serve as a commuter motorcycle, though its 125-cc engine makes it an unlikely candidate for regular use on highways and interstates.
