Ski-Doo Announces REV Gen5 Platform, A New Rotax Engine & New Sleds For Younger Riders
Ski-Doo recently took the wraps off of its 2023 lineup, including its REV Gen5 platform and the Deep Snow and Trail models built on it. REV Gen5 snowmobiles introduce LED headlights to improve visibility at night and provide improved durability through enhanced cooling systems and a new engine cradle with four engine mounts. On the Deep Snow models, the REV Gen5 platform offers a narrower, lighter body that parent company BRP says allows for more clearance and control on steep hillsides. The Deep Snow REV Gen5’s new tMotion Rear Suspension is nearly three pounds lighter and provides a more consistent ride in technical terrain. On the Trail models, the REV Gen5 platform includes redesigned side panels focused on noise reduction. Ski-Doo also introduced a new Rotax engine.
Rotax 850 E-TEC Turbo R
The new Rotax 850 E-TEC Turbo R engine is available on select models in the manufacturer’s 2023 lineup and delivers 180 horsepower (132 kilowatts), or 15 HP (11 kW) more than the previous-generation Rotax 850 E-TEC Turbo. Ski-Doo says the full 180 HP is available at elevations up to 8,000 feet (2,438 meters) above sea level, providing the factory two-stroke turbocharged engine with an advantage over naturally aspirated 855-cc engines at higher altitudes.
The Neo & Neo+
New to the 2023 Ski-Doo lineup are the Neo and Neo+, snowmobiles designed to transition new riders between youth and full-size models. The beginner-friendly sleds include a number of key features such as electric start, electronic fuel injection, and reverse.
“We have been seeing record-high numbers of new entrants coming into the world of snowmobiling recently and looking for an accessible way to try out the sport for themselves,” says Ski-Doo Global Marketing Director Annick Lauzon. “Doing that on a sled that is designed to match their skills and confidence level, while still delivering every ounce of That Ski-Doo Feeling they’re looking for, is why we’re proud to introduce the Neo.”
The MXZ 120 & 200
Ski-Doo is also introducing two new youth-specific models, the 120-cc MXZ 120 and the 200-cc MXZ 200, to let younger riders share in snowmobile adventures. Both compact snowmobiles are equipped with a tether switch for enhanced safety.
