Harley-Davidson’s New Electra Glide Standard Is Ready To Go The Distance
Introduced in 1965, the Electra Glide was Harley-Davidson’s first FL model with electric start. The bike gained its enduring, fork-mounted batwing fairing just four years later, and is still The Motor Company’s essential long-range touring motorcycle today. Harley says the 2022 Electra Glide Standard provides a “raw, fundamental riding experience,” that is perhaps best embodied by its lack of the digital interface that you’ll find mounted to the handlebars of most modern bikes. This bike even has a glove box where you’d normally find an audio system. In other words, if you’re looking to hit the road and disconnect, the Electra Glide is your ticket. And you’ll have a comfortable ride, thanks to the motorcycle’s upright riding position and roomy floorboards. The built-in saddlebags offer ample storage for cross-county adventures.
2022 Electra Glide Standard
Similar to other models in Harley-Davidson’s Grand American Touring category, the 2022 Electra Glide Standard runs a Milwaukee-Eight 017 V-Twin power plant. The muscular engine produces 93 horsepower (69 kilowatts) at 5,020 rpm, and 111 pounds-foot (150 newton-meters) of torque at 3,250 rpm. The Electra Glide features a low seat height of 26.1 inches (66.3 centimeters), identical to the similarly styled Street Glide bagger. A mid-height windshield installs above the batwing fairing to provide additional wind and element protection.
Built For Safety
Despite lacking the usual tech-heavy trappings, the new Electra Glide Standard packs plenty of modern safety features, starting with its Reflex linked Brembo brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS). The rear shock absorbers feature emulsion technology and a pre-load adjuster that makes it easy to dial in the ride you want. For advanced chassis control and other rider assist technology, riders have the option of adding the RDRS Safety Enhancements collection, which includes Electronically Linked Brakes, Cornering-ABS, Cornering-Traction Control, Drag Torque Slip Control, Vehicle Hold Control, and Tire Pressure Monitoring.
