Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight Back For 2022 With Familiar 'Bulldog' Stance
Harley-Davidson’s low-slung, fat-tire Forty-Eight is back for the 2022 model year. Launched in 2010, the single-seat Forty-Eight presents a muscular “bulldog stance” that has earned the bike a reputation for being an imposing, street-owning cruiser that can still churn out a smooth ride on city streets and highways. The bike owes much of its dominating appearance to its Michelin Scorcher 31 front and rear tires and its 2.1-gallon (7.9-liter) peanut tank, which Harley-Davidson is said to have introduced way back in 1948 with the advent of the Model S-125.
Killer Looks & More
The 2022 version of the Forty-Eight is available in Vivid Black, Reef Blue, and White Sand Pearl paint options. Whichever color you choose, you’ll enjoy the motorcycle’s “fat tires on a skinny bike” design, as Harley-Davidson describes it. The aforementioned Scorcher tires are mounted on black, split nine-spoke cast-aluminum wheels with machine highlights that bookend the bike’s brawny 1,200-cc air-cooled Evolution V-Twin engine, which is rated for 66 horsepower (49 kilowatts) at 5,500 rpm and delivers 73 pounds-foot (99 newton-meters) of torque at 3,500 rpm. The Motor Company says the power plant’s lightweight aluminum heads and cylinders enhance air-cooling performance.
As with many other 2022 models, the Forty-Eight gets a smooth, refined ride from its gas-charged emulsion-style rear shock, which comes equipped with a screw adjuster that makes it easy to dial in the ride you like best.
The Forty-Eight Up Close
The Forty-Eight has a laden seat height of 26.2 inches (665 millimeters), 4.3 in. (110 mm) of ground clearance, and a 58.9-in. (1,496-mm) wheelbase. The bike weighs in at 556 pounds (252 kilograms) and measures 85.2 in. (2,165 mm) long by 32.9 in. (835 mm) wide by 43.3 in. (1,110 mm) high. A 55-watt low-beam and 60-W high-beam Quartz Halogen headlamp helps show the way at night, and an electronic speedometer with odometer, a low-fuel warning light, engine diagnostics, and other indicators is mounted to the handlebar.
