Honda Announces New Color Options For The 2022 Model Year Pioneer 520 Side-By-Side
Honda is bringing back its compact Pioneer 520 side-by-side for the 2022 model year in new Honda Phantom Camo, Gray Resin, Moose Brown, and Red color options. Although the Pioneer 520 is small, Honda says it’s a heavyweight where versatility and performance are concerned, thanks to its 50-inch (1,270-millimeter) width, which allows it to access public ATV trails and width-restricted trails and fit in the back of a full-sized pickup. Honda says the UTV’s 518-cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected four-stroke engine is the largest in its class.
Honda Pro-Connect Ready
Available in January, the Pioneer 520 has a 1,058-pound (480-kilogram) curb weight and measures just 105 in. (2,667 mm) long and 71.2 in. (1,808.5 mm) high, with a 73-in. (1,854-mm) wheelbase. The side-by-side is a good fit for chores on farms and ranches due to its 1,000-lb. (454-kg) tow capacity and the 450-lb. (204-kg) payload capacity of its strut-assist tilt/dump bed, which has a flat-opening tailgate. The bed is compatible with cargo boxes, bed rails, chainsaw mounts, and other Honda Pro-Connect accessories, and is outfitted with recess rings, ridges, slots, and D-rings for securing buckets, milk crates, wood dividers, tie-downs, and more.
The Pioneer 520’s 518-cc power plant offers increased low-to-midrange power and torque that makes the vehicle a great choice for working, climbing trails, or exploring tough terrain. A five-speed transmission with automatic and manual shifting is included, as are paddle shifters on the steering column. Honda’s TraxLok system makes two- and four-wheel-drive modes selectable on the go using a dash-mounted knob.
Up To The Task
The Pioneer 520 also features independent double-wishbone front and rear suspensions with 5.8- and 5.9-in. (14.7- and 14.9-cm) travel, respectively. Combined with 8.5 in. (21.6 cm) of ground clearance, Honda says the suspensions, vehicle length, and wheelbase add up to excellent ability to handle uneven and challenging ground conditions.
Other features include a 4.1-gallon (15.5-liter) fuel capacity with 1.1-g (4.2-L) reserve, 35-watt headlights, and 12-in. (30.5-cm) rims shod with 24-in. (61-cm)-diameter all-terrain tires. Honda notes that the tires provide a good balance between traction, easy steering, and maneuverability in tight quarters.
