Harley-Davidson 2021 Pan America 1250 Special Becomes North America's Top-Selling Touring Motorcycle
Harley-Davidson CEO and President Jochen Zeitz says when his company set out to create the Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 Special adventure touring models, it sought to redefine the category with a bike designed and built in America. The game plan apparently paid off, as Harley-Davidson now says the Pan America 1250 Special, which provides a number of exclusive upgrades vs. the Pan America 1250, is North America’s top-selling adventure touring motorcycle.
No. 1 With A Bullet
First announced in 2018, the Pan America was engineered with an emphasis on performance and reducing overall bike weight. To that end, Harley equips the bike with the entirely redesigned liquid-cooled 150-horsepower (112-kilowatt) 1,250-cc V-Twin Revolution Max 1250 engine, which provides plenty of power and is a structural component of the motorcycle’s chassis, obviating the need for a traditional frame. The results, Harley says, include a lighter bike with plenty of power and precise handling.
Special Indeed
The Pan America Special has all of this and adds a factory-installed, industry-first Adaptive Ride Height feature that lowers the seat position when not moving and finds an optimal position when moving. It also comes with an electronically adjustable semi-active front and rear suspension system with automatic dampening control, a tire pressure-monitoring system, and Harley’s advanced Daymaker adaptive headlamp. Premium off-road features include an aluminum skid plate, brush guards for the radiator, and an adjustable brake pedal.
“With the Pan America Special now the No. 1-selling ADV motorcycle model in North America, we targeted a selective expansion into adventure touring as part of the Hardwire Strategy with the goal to reach new and existing Harley-Davidson customers,” Zeitz says. “Pan America is squarely built on our mission to deliver a timeless pursuit of adventure for our riders. Those who now own or have tested one of our Pan Americas absolutely love this bike—having sold out of our 2021 allocation, we are excited about what the future has in store for Pan America and for the adventure touring category at Harley-Davidson.”
