Harley-Davidson’s all-new sport custom, the Sportster S, marries sheer power with modern technology and responsive handling. New for the 2021 model year, the latest Sportster is founded on a 121-horsepower (90-kilowatt) Revolution Max 1250T V-Twin engine with “unrelenting performance,” the company says.

“The Sportster S is the next all-new motorcycle built on the Revolution Max platform and sets a new performance standard for the Sportster line,” says Harley-Davidson Chairman, President, and CEO Jochen Zeitz. “This is a next-generation Sportster defined by power, performance, technology, and style. And it’s part of our commitment to introduce motorcycles that align with our strategy to increase desirability and to drive the legacy of Harley-Davidson.”

    Power You Can Wield

The new Sportster’s Revolution Max engine is a structural component of the bike’s chassis, eliminating the weight and flex of a traditional frame. The V-Twin motor is liquid-cooled and fed by a 3.1-gallon (11.7-liter) fuel tank. The engine is built to deliver a wide, flat torque curve and strong acceleration from a standing start into the midrange. The bike’s high-mount exhaust system follows a 2-into-1-into-2 design.

The Sportster S has a premium, fully adjustable suspension, with 43-millimeter (1.7-inch) SHOWA inverted cartridge forks up front and a SHOWA Piggyback reservoir rear shock that is knob-adjustable for pre-load.

A new four-piston Brembo radial monoblock caliper puts the squeeze on the front wheel’s 320-mm (12.6-in.) disc brake rotor. In the rear is a 260-mm (10.2-in.) disc with a two-piston Brembo caliper. The motorbike’s lightweight, cast-aluminum wheels wear wide Dunlop/Harley-Davidson Series GT503 tires.

    A Beautiful Beast

Despite its raw torque, Harley-Davidson designed the Sportster S to be approachable; it features agile handling and a relatively light weight of 502 pounds (228 kilograms). The bike’s 29.6-in. (752-mm) unladen seat height accommodates the majority of riders interested in the cruiser category. In addition, its brake and clutch hand levers are reach-adjustable for a variety of hand sizes.

Harley-Davidson’s Cornering Rider Safety Enhancements technologies provide traction control, anti-lock braking, and rider confidence when road conditions are not optimal and/or when sudden action is required. The rider can set two custom ride performance modes in addition to the Sportster’s preset Sport, Road, and Rain modes.

    Electronics & Options

Cruise control, a USB-C charging port, and a proximity-based security system come standard on the new Sportster S. It features a distinctive Daymaker Signature LED headlight and other LED lighting. A 4-in. round display supports Bluetooth mobile devices and helmet headsets for navigation, phone calls, and music.

The new Sportster S is available in Vivid Black, Stone Washed White Pearl, and Midnight Crimson color schemes. Available accessories include seat and peg options for one or two riders, heated grips and riding gear, a matching tailbag, and a detachable windscreen.
