Suzuki Unveils Completely Updated 2022 GSX-S1000 Sport Bike
Earlier this week, Suzuki took the wraps off of its completely updated 2022 model year GSX-S1000 street bike, which features what Suzuki calls the “Razor Sharp and Ready To Strike” design concept. The GSX-S1000 originally launched in 2015 with a street-tuned version of the long-stroke engine in Suzuki’s GSX-R1000 racer. The newest S1000 has an updated 999-cc liquid-cooled, inline, four-cylinder engine along with updates to its 4-2-1 exhaust system, camshafts, valve springs, fuel-injection system, and air box.
Ready To Ride
The updated GSX-S1000 also now includes the Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) for the bike’s six-speed constant mesh transmission, helping provide smoother deceleration and finer control when downshifting. The bike’s Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS) provides several advanced electronic systems that match performance characteristics to various parameters, including rider experience level, road surface, and riding conditions. SIRS systems include a three-mode Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS), updated five-mode Suzuki Traction Control, Ride by Wire Electronic Throttle, Bi-Directional Quick Shift, Suzuki Easy Start, and Low RPM Assist.
Suzuki builds the bike with a twin-spar aluminum frame and the same aluminum-alloy braced swingarm as the GSX-R1000. The fully adjustable KYB suspension system pairs with a wider and tapered cast-aluminum handlebar. Other updated components include a lower seat (positioned at 31.9 inches/810 millimeters), a larger 5-gallon (19-liter) fuel tank, new wheels, and new Dunlop Roadsport 2 radial tires custom-engineered for performance. A new antilock brake system modulates the front and rear brakes to match stopping force to available traction, Suzuki says.
Aggressive Is The Way
Available in three color combinations, the updated GSX-S1000 features a new stacked LED headlight package, minimalist cowling, and angular radiator shrouds that all add up to Suzuki’s Razor Sharp and Ready To Strike concept. Other design implementations include a compact front end with thin tail section, a compact exhaust system, and a discreet tail section. These accentuate the engine, fuel tank, and midsection’s muscular look, says Suzuki, noting that the end result is “a mass-forward image that emphasizes the new GSX-S1000’s aggressive stance and eagerness to perform.”
