Suzuki Introduces The New 2022 Hayabusa, Launching In March 2021
Suzuki will soon launch the 2022 Hayabusa, a popular sport bike model that was first introduced in 1999, entered its second generation in 2008, and last saw a major update in 2013. While the 2022 iteration shares a similar style with its predecessors, the motorcycle features more than 550 new components that change the look slightly while also improving performance.
It starts with the bodywork; Suzuki used a wind tunnel to help design the Hayabusa with aerodynamics in mind. This led the manufacturer to change the shape of the vents and redesign the air diffusers. For added style, Suzuki added “reimagined logos” along with LED lighting and three paint color options: Glass Sparkle Black and Candy Burnt Gold, Metallic Matte Sword Silver and Candy Daring Red, and Pearl Brilliant White and Metallic Matte Stellar Blue.
With new brakes and suspension settings and an updated subframe that reduces weight by 700 grams (1.54 pounds), the Hayabusa honors past models while bringing the sport bike up to speed for modern times. It will officially launch in March with a base MSRP of $18,599.
Designed For Maximum Performance
The 2022 Suzuki Hayabusa is powered by a 1,340-cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled engine with an electric starter. This was a major focal point for the manufacturer, as the engine features a new camshaft and crankshaft, as well as new conrods and pistons. According to Suzuki, it offers a performance improvement that makes this “the fastest-launching Hayabusa yet,” and gives the bike an impressive top speed of 186 mph (299 km/h).
It also features a wet, multi-plate clutch with SCAS (Suzuki Clutch Assist System), a six-speed constant mesh transmission, and a 5.3-gallon (20-liter) fuel tank. It has an inverted telescopic suspension, Brembo Stylema twin-disc brakes with anti-lock braking (ABS), and a 120/70ZR17M/C tire in the front. In back you’ll find a link-type, single-shock suspension, Nissin single-disc brakes with ABS, and a 190/50ZR17M/C tire.
Technologically Advanced
Technology played a big role in making the Hayabusa more modern, and at the core of it all is the Suzuki Intelligence Ride System (SIRS). It consists of the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector Alpha, which allows for motion track traction control with 10 modes, power mode selection with three modes, bi-directional quick shifting with two modes, anti-lift control with 10 modes, and engine brake control with three modes.
Other rider assistance technologies include an active speed limiter, three-mode launch control system, emergency stop signal, Suzuki’s easy start system, low RPM assist, cruise control, combined brake system, motion track brake system, slope dependent control system, and hill hold control system.
Another major tech upgrade is the color TFT screen, which gives you quick access to your clock, gear position, odometer, fuel level and average fuel consumption, and more. Below that are indicators and gauges for turn signals, oil pressure, engine coolant temperature, and other important metrics. There is also an ambient light sensor that adjusts brightness automatically so the rider can stay focused on the road.
