Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 Brings Adventure To Touring
Harley-Davidson has unveiled the long-awaited Pan America 1250, an adventure-touring motorcycle The Motor Company first announced in 2018. The Pan America 1250 and 1250 Special are now slated to arrive at Harley-Davidson dealerships in Spring 2021. The versatile bikes are granted stability whether on-road or off by a broad collection of technologies designed to match motorcycle performance to available traction during acceleration, deceleration, and braking. And, as you might expect from Harley-Davidson, plenty of power comes along for the ride thanks to a new 150-horsepower (112-kilowatt) Revolution Max 1250 engine, a liquid-cooled 1,250-cc V-Twin.
An Adventurous Chassis
Harley-Davidson says it engineered the Pan America 1250 with a focus on performance and minimizing weight, choices that impacted the engine architecture, material choices, and component design. The powertrain acts as part of the frame and is directly bolted to the front frame, the mid frame, and the tail section. Harley-Davidson says this design reduces the bikes’ overall weight and results in a stiff chassis that contributes to precise handling. The chassis is designed with a 62.2-inch (158-centimeter) wheelbase, ideal for touring (especially with a passenger and loaded luggage, according to Harley-Davidson) and providing the agility required for off-road maneuverability.
The Pan America 1250 Special
Exclusive features abound on the Special model. Just a few key upgrades include an electronically adjustable semi-active front and rear suspension that automatically controls dampening, a tire pressure monitoring system, a center stand, an aluminum skid plate, and adaptive rider height. Harley-Davidson says the latter a first in the motorcycle industry; a suspension system that automatically transitions the motorcycle between a low stopped position and optimal ride height when the motorcycle is in motion.
