Can-Am Spyder RT 3-Wheeler & Ski-Doo Expedition Extreme Snowmobile Win Good Design USA Awards

The 2020 Can-Am Spyder RT.

BRP, the parent company of Ski-Do, Lynx, Sea-Doo, Evinrude, Rotax, Can-Am, Alumacraft, and Manitou, recently took home three Good Design USA Awards for its 2020 Sea-Doo GTI, Can-Am Spyder RT, and Ski-Doo Expedition Extreme offerings. Good Design USA hands out design awards internationally in several areas, including transportation, sports recreation, robotics, and much more. BRP won more than a dozen awards across the last year, including the Good Design trio.

“We’re thrilled to have been recognized with 13 awards in 2020,” says BRP Senior Vice-President, Design, Innovation & Creative Services, Denys Lapointe. “This is a huge accomplishment for our teams, and I’d like to highlight the dedication and innovative spirit of everyone at BRP. This year saw many people take refuge in the outdoors with the help of BRP’s products, and we look forward to seeing a continuation of this trend in 2021.”

Can-Am Spyder RT

The 2020 Can-Am Spyder RT trike motorcycle, first unveiled back in September 2019, represented a complete redesign. Can-Am extended the floorboard, added heated rider and passenger seats with better support, an adjustable electric windshield, and 47 gallons (178 liters) of modular, removable storage space.

The 2021 lineup consists of the base Spyder RT, Spyder RT Limited, and Spyder RT Sea-To-Sky. The Spyder RT Limited, for example, features a three-cylinder Rotax 1300 ACE engine, a six-speed semi-automatic transmission with reverse, a Double A-arms front suspension with an anti-roll bar, a swing arm rear suspension, and a 7-gal (26-L) fuel tank. It supports a maximum vehicle load of 494 pounds (224 kilograms) and a towing capacity of 400 lbs (181 kg).

Ski-Doo Expedition Extreme

The latest iteration of the Ski-Doo Expedition Extreme off-trail snowmobile is based on the company’s REV Gen4 platform, which can support tracks of up to 20 inches (508 millimeters) wide. The Expedition Extreme features a QRS pDrive clutch with clickers, an RAS 3 front suspension, and an SC-5U rear suspension. It also has a dry weight of 596 lbs (270 kg) and a fuel tank capacity of 11.1 gal (42 L).
