Polaris Unveils Its 2021 Snowmobiles, Lightweight QuickDrive2, New Matryx Platform
Polaris’ 2021 lineup of snowmobiles is out, along with new features, and there’s much for enthusiasts to get excited about. Note that some models are available only through the annual SnowCheck pre-order customization program that runs now through April 15.
QuickDrive2 Models
QuickDrive2 is a new, lightweight, low-inertia drive system with a 10% gearing reduction for responsiveness. It’s available on the Polaris RMK Khaos and PRO-RMK mountain models. Also new is the Series 8 track with a “flex-optimized” design and stiffer lugs for quick lift, high traction, and great flotation.
For powder conditions, there’s the RMK Khaos 163 with QuickDrive2 and a Series 7 track with 3-inch (76-millimeter) lugs. The beginners’ RMK EVO model returns to the product family, while the SKS crossover series promises deep-snow domination. Low-elevation clutching calibration is another option available through SnowCheck.
New 600-Class Engine
Designed for durability, Polaris’ new 650 Patriot engine improves upon the Liberty 600 with 10% more power, 14% more torque, and up to 60% better fuel economy. The king of the mountain 850 Patriot engine also continues to be available, now during the season as well as through SnowCheck.
Matryx Platform Models
Two new models are built on the rider-forward Matryx platform, a SnowCheck exclusive, which emphasizes control and a more comfortable rider position on long rides. The all-new Indy VR1 trail model offers powerful acceleration, while the new Switchback Assault 146 crossover is for on- and off-trail use.
The two sleds come with a 7-in touchscreen display—a first in the industry, Polaris says. The Bluetooth-enabled 7S Display features exclusive Polaris Ride Command Technology. It can be customized with Ride Command mapping and Group Ride tracking of other snowmobile riders. Other innovations the Indy VR1 and Switchback Assault 146 share are intelligently controlled hand and thumb SmartWarmers, a new NightBlade LED headlight, and the new Lock & Ride FLEX toolless attachment system for accessories.
AXYS Platform
Polaris continues to develop new AXYS models, including the Indy XCR racer, the Indy XC for trails, the comfortable Indy Adventure, the Indy EVO for new riders, and more. Switchback crossover models include the XCR for bumps and racing, the smooth-riding PRO-S, and the Switchback Assault with its vaunted on/off-trail handling.
