Polaris Deployed RANGER 1000 UTVs To Aid In Recovery Efforts Following Tropical Storm Imelda
Personnel from Jefferson County Emergency Management and the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office in Texas are using RANGER 1000 vehicles to access remote areas, transport supplies, and help local citizens affected by Tropical Storm Imelda.
“Imelda has devastated the eastern half of Chambers County, a largely rural area, where the rugged terrain makes transportation challenging,” says Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne. “Polaris RANGER recognized the need for support and stepped in to help us as we provide relief for our citizens and work to recover our community.”
Up To The Task
“The Polaris RANGER vehicles are uniquely capable of reaching remote areas that are in critical need of assistance,” says Jefferson County Emergency Management Office Coordinator Michael White. “We are deeply thankful for Polaris RANGER in helping in aiding the citizens of Jefferson County.”
The 2020 RANGER XP 1000 features a DOHC 999cc ProStar engine that produces 82 horsepower (61 kilowatts) and 62 pounds-foot of torque. The powerful UTV provides assistance teams with 2,500 pounds (1,134 kilograms) of towing capacity, 1,500 pounds (680.4 kilograms) of payload capacity, and 1,000 pounds (454 kilograms) of box capacity.
Rugged & Durable
Tropical Storm Imelda triggered dangerous flooding, forcing the rescue or evacuation of at least 6,000 citizens. The RANGER XP 1000 is built to handle such conditions. Polaris designed the machine with 27-inch Maxxis 6-Ply tires to offer traction when it’s needed as well as puncture resistance. On steep descents, operators can take advantage of the integrated engine braking, and the underside of the UTV is protected from chance blows by a full-body skid plate. The user-selectable throttle control allows users to select from Performance, Work, and Standard modes to suit the RANGER’s operation to the job or trail.
