As Honda Powersports says about young riders acquiring their first motocross bike, it’s the “moment race dreams become reality.” In Honda’s estimation, no bike is better-suited to help young riders reach success and the winner’s podium than its Honda CRF150R, the smallest of the company’s motocross models. Honda released new details on the 2020 model year CRF150R ($5,099), which is also available in a Big Wheel version ($5,299), in May along with other models in its 2020 CRF lineup. The updated 150Rs have larger wheels, a taller seat, and a beefed-up rear suspension, and are available now.

    Ride With Confidence

Although the CRF150R is Honda’s smallest motocross bike, the motorsports company says the competition-ready model delivers “ample torque across the rev range” due to its Unicam single-cylinder, four-stroke 147.7cc water-cooled engine. Honda notes that the engine is unique to the “mini-MX world,” and says it “packs a punch” and lets young riders “ride with confidence right out the gate.” Weighing 44.6 pounds (20.2 kilograms), the engine assembly features a 1.26-inch (32-millimeter) Keihin FCR carburetor with accelerator pump circuit, a twin-sump lubrication system that ensures the clutch is supplied with cool oil, and a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission.

Both CRF150R versions feature a lightweight, high-tensile steel frame chassis with large-diameter tubing and cross-member that Honda says provides “excellent turning performance and straight-line tracking.” Both also have a 1.46-inch (37-millimeter) fully adjustable inverted Showa cartridge front fork with 10.8-inch (274-millimeter) travel. But whereas the CRF150R includes a 10.7-inch (272-millimeter) travel Pro-Link fully adjustable rear suspension, the CRF150R Big Wheel’s Pro-Link rear suspension measures a longer 11.1 inches (282 millimeters).

    Size Differences

Both bikes include high-quality Dunlop tires for 2020, but the standard model comes equipped with a 49.6-inch (1,260-millimeter) wheelbase, while the Big Wheel’s measures 50.6 inches (1,285 millimeters). Height and ground clearance are also a bit different, with the standard model measuring 44.6 inches (1,133 millimeters) high, providing 11.9 inches (302 millimeters) of ground clearance, and having a 32.8-inch (833-millimeter) seat height; the Big Wheel measures 46.1 inches (1,171 millimeters) tall, provides 13.2 inches (335.3 millimeters) of ground clearance, and offers a 34.1-inch (866-milliimeter) seat height.

MotorSportsUniverse.com has a huge selection of new and used Honda motorsports vehicles for sale every day, including a big selection of Honda motocross bikes and a number of CRF150R models.
