Honda Powersports Readies Upgraded CRF450RWE Works Edition Dirt Bike For August Sales
If you’re in the market for a new 450-class Honda dirt bike, mark your calendar for August. That’s when Honda Powersports will release the limited-production 2020 model year CRF450RWE Works Edition starting at $11,999. Making its debut last year, the bike follows closely in the footsteps of Honda’s flagship CRF450R, which has been updated for the 2020 model year and will be available in July starting at $9,399.
Both bikes feature the addition of the Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) system, which is purported to maximize “rear-tire hookup to keep all the Unicam engine’s horsepower driving the bike and rider forward.” Developed through Honda Racing Corporation, the HSTC system integrates a handlebar-located switch that enables drivers to choose three levels of delivery, the most levels for the bike’s class, Honda says.
A “Dominant Force”
Available in red and approved for racing, the CRF450RWE was “already a dominant force” where lap times are concerned, Honda says. The 2020 model includes all the updates of the 2020 CRF450R model—relocated battery, enhanced rear brake pads, internal suspension upgrades, Dunlop Geomax MX3S tires, etc.—but also now features a full titanium Yoshimura exhaust system due to Honda adding a lightweight Ti header (a first on a Honda motocross bike) to the titanium Yoshimura muffler. The CRF450RWE also features a special hand-ported cylinder head, titanium nitride-coated lower fork legs and shock shaft, a gold RK chain, special ECU settings, black triple clamps, black DID DirtStar LT-X rims, re-valved suspension, factory-spec gripper seat, HRC decal package, and new dual-compound Renthal grips.
Elsewhere, the CRF450RWE includes electric starting, a 499cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine, close-ratio five-speed transmission, next-generation twin-spar aluminum frame, and a 49-millimeter inverted Showa fork front suspension with adjustable rebound and compression damping, as well as a Pro-Link Showa single shock rear suspension with adjustable spring preload, rebound, and compression damping.
Slim & Trim
The CRF450RWE enjoys a 247-pound (112-kilogram) curb weight, which Honda notes includes all standard equipment, required fluids, and a full tank of fuel.
