Enhanced 2020 Honda CRF450RX Enduro Bike Slated For October Launch
The 2020 edition of Honda's CRF450RX motocross bike is set to drop in October with an exciting list of upgrades. The Enduro version of the company’s flagship CRF450R comes with a larger, 2.25-gallon (8.5-liter) resin fuel tank for long loops and a suspension tweaked for the unique style of off-road racing. Called the CRF450RX, it’s been potent medicine in the hands of racers such as 2018 Big 6 West Coast Grand Prix champion Trevor Stewart.
New Features
Like its 2020 stablemates, the newest CRF450RX closed-course racer gets the Honda Selectable Torque Control feature. HSTC, on tap via a handlebar switch, lets you choose among three traction control settings. The system adjusts power delivery according to the rate of engine rpm increase to give you the rear-wheel hookup that slippery conditions demand.
Honda also made internal suspension tweaks to the CRF450RX for better front-rear balance and handling. It also dropped the battery 1.1 inches (28 millimeters) for a lower center of gravity. The dirt bike’s reengineered “in mold” graphics retain their beauty race after race, while new rear brake pads last longer and give the CRF450RX better stopping power.
Features & Specs
Besides its big fuel tank, the CRF450RX stands out from its kin with a model-specific ECU and a forged aluminum alloy sidestand. The bike’s Dunlop Geomax AT81 tires are purpose-built for the task, measuring 90/90-21 up front and 120/90-18 for the unusual (for Enduro racing) 18-inch (457-millimeter) rear wheel.
Honda powers the CRF450RX via a four-stroke, one-cylinder, 449-cubic centimeter engine with a high-compression (13.5:1) Unicam cylinder head and electric start. Lightweight titanium valves and a fuel injector that sprays twice per intake cycle free up some additional horses, while HRC Launch Control assists with acceleration.
The 255-pound (116-kilogram) bike has 12.9 inches (328 millimeters) of ground clearance, a factory skid plate, and a close-ratio, five-speed transmission. Big, single-disc brakes rear and front—the latter with a twin-piston caliper—reliably slow your roll. Showa furnishes the front inverted fork and low-mounted, Pro-link single rear shock. Both have adjustable rebound and compression damping.
Availability
Honda has set an MSRP of $9,699 for the upgraded 2020 CRF450RX. Its October availability timeframe will come pretty late in the day for the 2019 season, but you’ll have plenty of time to bond with your new bike before the 2020 series begins.
