Can-Am Announces All-New 2024 Maverick R Side-By-Side With Industry-Leading Horsepower
BRP motor sports brand Can-Am recently announced an all-new Maverick R off-road recreation side-by-side vehicle (SSV) for 2024 powered by what it says is an industry-leading 240-horsepower (179-kilowatt) engine. The SSV also leverages the first-ever Rotax off-road 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) design, offering automatic or optional paddle shifting. Furthermore, the 10.25-inch touchscreen display included with select configurations is a first for an off-road Can-Am vehicle.
Changing The Industry
Four Maverick R configurations are available, including the R X rs With Smart-Shox. It includes Fox Live Valve Gen 3 semi-active suspension technology and Fox 2.5 Podium front and 3.0 Podium rear shocks, all helping to maintain smooth tracking across even “the most treacherous of desert chop,” Can-Am says.
“Can-Am believes that progress does not come from standing still, and the exciting new Maverick R represents our commitment to creating a machine that will change the industry by smashing through the confines of current performance and design boundaries, taking the rider experience to a whole new level,” says BRP Powersports Group President Sandy Scullion. “With a 240-horsepower power plant, state-of-the-art DCT gearbox, and the chassis and suspension to harness the power, the new Maverick R is truly a race-ready side-by-side purpose-built for the most demanding riders.”
Eat My Dust
The Maverick R’s 999T Rotax 999-cc turbocharged inline 3-cylinder, 4-stroke, fuel-injected engine meshes with the DCT to deliver a power-to-displacement ratio that leaves the competition in the dust, says Can-Am. The SSV’s optimized air intake design includes dual fuel injectors and an industry-first electronically controlled wastegate. The manufacturer says the wastegate regulates the 54-millimeter (2.1-in.) Rotax turbocharger’s boost pressure for maximum performance under any conditions.
Normal, Sport, and Sport+ selectable driving modes are available. Sport+ allows for peak throttle response and gear shifting at 8,500 rpm, employing Can-Am’s Advanced Response Technology (ART) to essentially create an anti-turbo lag system that enables maximum airflow and performance.
Less Stress
Can-Am attaches the engine to a newly designed high-strength, dual-phase, tube-steel V-shaped chassis designed to reduce stress on bolted connections, including the front and rear suspension components. The suspension system boasts a new, heavy-duty tall-knuckle design with 25 in. (635 mm) of travel up front and 26 in. (660 mm) at the rear. Can-Am says customers can also expect benefits like enhanced bump absorption, torsional rigidity, stability, and handling from the aerospace aluminum suspension configuration used.
Take A Seat
The Maverick R’s one-piece half doors provide entry to an Ergo-Lok cockpit equipped with 4-way adjustable driver and passenger seats with low positioning. The telescoping steering wheel includes a control keypad and the optional shifter paddles if equipped. The 10.25-in. touchscreen supports smartphone connectivity and viewing performance details, driving stats, front and rear camera views, and navigation data supplied by the BRP Go! App. Storage includes a central sealed compartment for safely storing mobile devices.
