Can-Am Unveils All-New Outlander Recreation & Utility ATVs For 2023
Can-Am has announced all-new Outlander 500 and 700 recreation and Pro HD5 and HD7 utility ATVs for 2023. The company says the all-terrain models lead the medium engine displacement class in power, ground clearance, suspension travel, towing and rack capacities, and maintenance intervals. Across the board, Can-Am emphasized an enhanced rider experience in designing the ATVs, from their new tubular-steel chassis design inspired by the Maverick X3 side-by-side platform, to additional knee room, more spacious floorboards for better handling, greater stability, and less noise and chassis feedback.
“This launch is probably the biggest Can-Am ATV launch of the past 10 years,” says Elsa Vilarinho, Can-Am Off-Road director of global marketing. “We are excited to offer consumers a best-in-class ATV designed with their needs in mind and how they use the product, from the riding experience, to real-world capabilities, and our awesome accessories.”
The Outlander 2023 Lineup
Outlander 500 and 700 configurations for 2023 include standard, 500 2WD, DPS (dynamic power steering), XT 700, X MR 700, MAX DPS, and MAX XT 700 variants. The ATVs are variously available in legion red, granite gray, wildland camo, and neo yellow color schemes. Pro HD5 and HD7 models come in standard, Pro XU, and Hunting Edition versions with desert tan, tundra green, and wildland camo paint options.
All configurations have a new built-in 1-gallon (3.8-liter) glove box compartment. Depending on the model, a magnetic smartphone mount and USB port are also provided. Can-Am offers 125 LinQ accessories for the ATVs’ front cargo area, handlebar interface and ergo zone, and rear cargo area. A few examples of what’s available to assist in taking on trails, ranch and farm tasks, snow and mud, and other work and play conditions include heated grips, windshields, storage accessories for tools and gun racks, skid plates, snow tracks, and lighting options.
Engine & Transmission
The Outlanders are powered by an all-new single-cylinder 650-cc Rotax Advanced Combustion Efficiency (ACE) engine that’s fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, and rear-facing to reduce heat buildup. The power plants for the Outlander 500 and Pro HD5 are rated for 40 horsepower (30 kilowatts) and 37 pounds-foot (50 newton-meters) of torque. The 700 and Pro HD7’s engines are rated for 50 HP (37 kW) and 41 lbs-ft (55.6 N-m) of torque. The 500 and 700 have a new pDrive primary continuously variable transmission (CVT); the HD5 and HD7’s version has work calibration and Extra L/H/N/R/P gearing. Can-Am says the pDrive clutch is its lowest-maintenance, quickest down-shifting, smoothest-shifting, and most durable clutch ever.
