Yamaha Motor To Begin Testing Prototype Fuel Cell Vehicle On Public Roads

Yamaha Motor announced in early April that it will begin testing its YG-M FC prototype fuel cell vehicle on public roads beginning April 18. Testing will take place on a city-center course in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Yamaha’s aim with the YG-M FC and the tests is to “deliver a seamless vehicle-sharing service.” The company says testing will include scheduled routes as part of Wajima City’s new “WA-MO” transport system.

Fuel-Cell Advantages

Compared to similarly sized electric Public Personal Mobility vehicles, Yamaha says its fuel-cell prototype offers a longer range and quicker refueling times. Yamaha also says its fuel-cell vehicle initiative is aligned with greenhouse gas emission-reduction efforts and with the Japanese government’s basic hydrogen strategy to promote wide usage and installation of fuel-cell vehicles and hydrogen stations. The initiative is connected to Yamaha’s “Transforming Mobility” effort, which is part of its long-term “ART for Human Possibilities” vision and Yamaha Environmental Plan 2050 target to reduce product CO2 emissions and resource usage by 50%.
