Honda Unveils Extensive Updates For 2025 CRF450R, CRF450RWE & CRF450RX Dirt Bikes
Honda recently announced the arrival of its 2025 CRF dirt bike lineup, including the CRF450R and CRF450WE (Works Edition) motocross models and the closed-course off-road CRF450RX. Each sports a familiar Honda red exterior and provides the same updates to the engine, chassis, and suspension. Among these are a new frame specially tuned for rigidity and new suspension components that enhance handling characteristics, especially in rough terrain.
The CRF450R: Not Just For Pros
Honda says the CRF450R has been years in the making. The company designed the bike using input from pro test riders, Team HRC riders (including 5-time Motorcross World Championship champion Tim Gajser), motocross media members, and customers. It also implemented features used during Team HRC rider Jett Lawrence’s undefeated 2023 Pro Motocross Championship season.
Honda made more than a dozen changes to the bike for 2025, including a redesigned main frame constructed of 70% new components. Honda says an 8% increase in torsional rigidity results in better overall stability. A 5% increase in the torsional/lateral rigidity ratio enables precision cornering. The longer, straighter design of the header pipe means more efficient, usable power in the low-to-mid rpm ranges from the 449.8-cc liquid-cooled 10-degree single-cylinder 4-stroke engine.
The CRF450RWE: “A Purpose-Built Race Weapon”
The 2025 CRF450RWE gives you all the goodness of the CRF450R—including a Nissin-manufactured hydraulically actuated clutch and a lightweight narrow frame that’s over 1.5 pounds lighter—but adds a host of premium, championship-proven components that Honda says help create the “absolute best of the best.”
These include a Hinson premium clutch basket with a Hinson clutch cover and an exclusive Yoshimura exhaust with a stainless steel header, a titanium mid-pipe, and a factory-installed muffler. The bike also sports premium D.I.D DirtStar LT-X rims shod in Dunlop MX33 21-inch front and 19-in. rear tires, an aluminum Renthal Fatbar handlebar with special Renthal grips, and Throttle Jockey Team Honda HRC graphics and Throttle Jockey seat cover.
The CRF450RX: Your All-Terrain Solution
The CRF450RX combines motocross riders' desired features with the durability and specialized suspension needed to stand up to grueling off-road conditions. The revised suspension has a 49-millimeter inverted Showa coil-spring fork with new springs, kit-fork-inspired Bending Control Valves, seals, and oil, all helping to minimize the impacts riders feel. The Pro-Link rear suspension system provides an 11% increase in rigidity thanks to a revised linkage structure.
The RX has a 2.1-gallon resin fuel tank that only needs filling once to finish a 3-hour Enduro race. The bike also has an 18-in. rear wheel that accommodates a taller tire sidewall, a dedicated electronic control unit (ECU) map, and softer suspension settings that enhance performance over rocks and roots. Endura-designed Dunlop AT81 tires are standard, and the ECU map optimizes power delivery for low-traction off-road conditions.
