Get To Some Tasty Waves With BMW’s CE 04 Vagabund Moto Concept E-Scooter
If an urban vehicle with modern design, a built-in surfboard transport system, and zero emissions sounds like something you’d be interested in, check out the BMW CE 04 Vagabund Moto Concept. Based on BMW’s CE 04 electric scooter and designed with young riders in mind, the concept vehicle is the result of a collaboration between BMW Motorrad Austria and Austria’s Vagabund Moto design studio.
“Everyone defines the mobility of the future in their own individual way,” says Paul Brauchart, Vagabund Moto founder and managing director. “With the BMW CE 04 Vagabund Moto Concept, we now present our own idea of a stylish and multifunctional urban e-scooter that shows just how mobility needs are as individual as each personality. We haven’t reinvented the wheel, but we have taken a new look at function. We call it drawing on the synergies between functionality and aesthetics in a way that is suitable for everyday use."
Surf’s Up
If the scooter concept’s unique white, dark green, beige, and black color palette doesn’t attract your attention, its color-matched surfboard and integrated transport system surely will. But these aren’t the only fashion elements that help the e-scooter stand out. There’s also an orange smiley face on each side of the front wheel hub and smiley faces in the glass of the indicator lights. At the rear of the bike’s flat seat, meanwhile, there’s a Peli 300 Protector hard-plastic top case that’s sharp-looking and provides extra storage.
“The surfboard isn’t just a piece of sports equipment: It’s also a metaphor for a sustainable urban lifestyle,” says Oliver Balzer, head of BMW Motorrad Austria. “The BMW CE 04 Vagabund Moto Concept combines work, leisure, and individual flair, demonstrating that there needs to be no contradiction between any of these areas.”
80-Mile Range
BMW notes that the concept e-scooter provides the impressive performance of the BMW CE 04, which has a permanent-magnet liquid-cooled synchronous motor rated for 20 horsepower (15 kilowatts) and can generate 42 HP (31 kW) of maximum power at 4,900 rpm. The scooter has a range of 80 miles (130 kilometers) and a dynamic acceleration of 2.6 seconds from 0 to 31 mph (50 km/h), and recharging the bike’s battery from 0 to 80% takes just 65 minutes when using an optional fast charger at the maximum charging current.
