Chassis / Suspension The YFZ450R's motocross-ready chassis is built for competition straight out of the box. Professional-caliber frame is designed from lightweight, weldless aluminum with a tension-steel bottom frame. Steel frame member under the engine provides strength and lets the engine sit lower for enhanced mass centralization. The aluminum frame section is bolted together, rather than welded, for maximum durability. Narrow A-arm mounting points increase A-arm length and reduce changes in camber as the suspension travels. Fully adjustable front KYB® shocks are longer for increased stroke, superb bump absorption and excellent bottoming resistance. Kashima coated front shocks offer smooth operation, while the 9.8 inches of wheel travel mean it's ready for the track. Fully adjustable 46mm KYB® piggyback rear shock provides excellent handling and 11 inches of wheel travel. Matched to KYB® rear shock, competition-tested rear swingarm is crafted of strong, gravity-fed aluminum. High performance dual hydraulic front discs and wave-style hydraulic rear disc offer competition-level braking power. Wheels are set motocross-spec wide, near the allowable maximum of 50 inches, for great cornering speed. Wheels are designed with the inner lip rolled in to increase rigidity, allowing for a reduction in weight while maintaining strength. At 21 inches up front and 20 inches in the rear, large Maxxis® tires provide excellent handling and enhanced ground clearance. Bodywork is designed for great ergonomics and rider comfort with more room for the racer to move around during the motos. The seat shape is narrow in the front and padded in the rear providing comfort while allowing the rider to easily adjust position. Body panels remove easily without tools for simplified service. Engine High-tech, quick-revving, 449cc fuel-injected engine provides championship-winning power characteristics. Five-valve cylinder head and titanium valve technology delivers abundant mid-range and top-end power. Revised camshafts maximize engine's impressive power output from off the line all the way up to the top-end. High compression ratio further improves overall engine performance. Yamaha Fuel Injection (YFI) offers precise fuel delivery and smooth power delivery. Big 42mm Mikuni® throttle body and 12-hole injector provide exceptional fuel atomization for maximum power. The system also includes ISC (Idle Speed Control) for easy, reliable start-up and warming. Crankshaft is designed to handle the increased demands of competition, while counterbalancer reduces vibration. Crankcase houses the oil tank which helps to centralize mass for unmatched handling while making maintenance easier. Assist-and-slipper clutch reduces lever effort while simultaneously increasing clutch plate pressure for positive engagement. Clutch system also reduces engine braking effect for faster cornering, particularly when downshifting. The large-diameter tapered handlebar reduces vibration and is mounted on four-way clamps for exceptional adjustability. Rider to choose between standard handlebar setting, 10mm forward, 20mm forward or 10mm backward. The throttle lever requires low effort for less fatigue during long motos. The generous 2.6-inch-wide foot pegs add confidence while getting up on the pegs.
