Suzuki Returns ‘Dirt-Worthy’ V-Strom 800DE & 800DE Adventure Motorcycles For 2024
Motorcycles in the adventure category can’t just excel on paved surfaces. They need bona fide off-road capabilities, as well. The latter is no problem for the midsize 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 800DE and 800DE Adventure, which the manufacturer says are the most “dirt-worthy” V-Stroms ever.
Suzuki 800DE Choices
Customers can saddle up for on- and off-road adventures on either the standard 800DE—available in new Pearl Tech White or Champion Yellow No. 2 color schemes—or the 800DE Adventure. The latter has a new Metallic Matte Steel Green scheme and adds quick-release 1.3-cubic-foot (37-liter) black-anodized aluminum side cases, an accessory bar, and a skid pan that protects the bike’s underside on rough terrain.
The 800DE’s compact yet powerful 776-cc parallel-twin engine uses 270-degree crankshaft timing and Suzuki’s industry-exclusive Cross Balancer technology to enable smooth, strong torque delivery. Suzuki says the bike’s durable new steel frame takes advantage of the engine’s compactness to enhance agility and stability.
The 800DE also employs a long, fully adjustable inverted Showa fork with the longest suspension travel of any V-Strom at 8.7 inches (220 millimeters). At 8.75 in. (222 mm), the bike’s ground clearance tops all other V-Stroms. The 21-in. (533-mm) front and 17-in. (432-mm) rear wheels are outfitted with new Dunlop Trailmax Mixtour tires designed to provide good off-road traction but reduce road noise on paved surfaces.
Gravel-Ready Riding
Riders can tap into the advanced electronic systems within the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS) to match bike performance to their riding style and expertise, as well as current conditions. Among these is the 5-mode Traction Control System that Suzuki debuted last year with the 2023 V-Strom 800DE.
The system continuously tracks multiple parameters and reduces engine output when detecting wheel spin. Among its five modes is the Gravel G mode, which enables some wheel slip when riding on unpaved roads. A safety-enhancing anti-lock braking (ABS) system is also onboard, offering two rider-selectable sensitivity levels. Riders can turn ABS off to the rear wheel when heading offroad.
On-The-Fly Control
The 800DE's new 5-inch, full-color display is brightness-adjustable and gives you on-the-go access and control of the SIRS systems, general information, and much more. Mounted behind the adjustable windscreen, it has a scratch-resistant surface to protect it against the dirt, debris, and other elements you'll encounter off the beaten path.
