2023 Suzuki V-Strom 800DE Ready For On- & Off-Road Adventures
Suzuki introduced its V-Strom line in 2002, providing riders with go-anywhere capability and an adventure-ready package of standard and optional features. The manufacturer says its new V-Strom 800DE series is enhanced with a new engine and frame size optimized for spirited adventure riding. For example, the 2023 V-Strom 800DE offers more ground clearance and a longer suspension than any V-Strom model yet. Suzuki also equips an all-new 776-cc parallel twin engine with a 270-degree crankshaft configuration, delivering torque-rich power while the spaced power pulses make for easier control on roads and trails.
V-Strom Be Nimble
The compact 776-cc, DOHC parallel-twin engine lets Suzuki accommodate more advanced off-road features on the 2023 V-Strom 800DE; the engine’s short length, for instance, allows for a more off-road friendly chassis geometry on the steel frame. These changes resulted in a longer wheelbase and rake, more ground clearance, and a wider handlebar grip.
The V-Strom 800DE’s higher ground clearance is partially due to the 21-inch (53.3-centimeter) front wheel, a 3-in. increase from the previous 19-in. (48.3-cm) wheel. The new, 17-in. (43.2-cm) rear wheel allows for larger tires for increased grip and stability. Suzuki fitted the V-Strom 800DE with Dunlop Trailmax Mixtour tires with a semi-block tread pattern to maximize off- and on-road traction.
The long, inverted fork on the 2023 V-Strom 800DE is fully adjustable, and there’s also a hand-operated hydraulic spring preload adjuster for the rear shock absorber. The front fork suspension can travel up to 8.7 in. (220 millimeters), and the rear wheel suspension offers an identical travel distance. Suzuki matches the updated suspension and chassis geometry with a new swingarm to improve the adventure bike’s straight-line stability and cornering control.
Intelligent Ride
The V-Strom 800DE is fitted with a 5-in. TFT LCD instrument panel display with Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS) technology. From the full-color instrument panel, riders can manage engine performance through the bike’s electronic cruise control, multiple adjustable traction control modes, and bi-directional clutchless quick-shifting. The V-Strom 800DE also introduces Suzuki’s new Gravel Traction Control mode and rider-adjustable ABS mode to give riders more options when riding on the trail. Suzuki’s V-Strom 800DE Adventure model adds a set of factory-fitted quick-release black aluminum side cases, an aluminum skid plate, and an accessory bar.
