The 2023 Harley-Davidson Freewheeler trike has a little darker attitude than before. Gone are the bright finishes from the front end to the tips of its exhaust; Harley has done away with miles of chrome and swathed the Freewheeler’s headlamp nacelle, tank console, hand and foot controls, and powertrain components in a new, all-black finish. The new gloss black aluminum rear wheels on the 2023 Freewheeler were also upgraded from 15 to 18 inches (380 to 457 millimeters), which Harley says gives the trike a dramatic new stance.
Three-Wheel Performance
The trike is powered by Harley’s Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-Twin engine that delivers 90 horsepower (67 kilowatts) at 4,750 rpm, and features an electric reverse gear to more easily back into or out of parking spots. Harley engineered the Freewheeler chassis for three-wheel vehicles, optimizing the trike’s handling and performance. Specifically, the Freewheeler rides on a suspension that includes a 49-mm dual-bending-valve front fork and a hand-adjustable emulsion rear suspension. Harley includes a variety of rider safety technologies, including Cornering Enhanced Electronic Linked Braking, the Cornering Enhanced Antilock Braking System, the Cornering Enhanced Traction Control System, and the Cornering Enhanced Drag-Torque Slip Control System.
Trike Traits
The bike’s waterproof trunk holds 2 cubic feet (0.06 cubic meters) of luggage and includes a top-mounted door for easily loading. Classic bobtail rear fenders cover the rear wheels, while amplifying the trike’s hot-rod style. The Freewheeler has a 65.7-in. (1,669-mm) wheelbase, measures 103 in. (2,616 mm) long, has a 26.2-in. (665-mm) seat height, and has a 6-gallon (22.7-liter) fuel tank.
