A Closer Look At The Kubota RTV520 Utility Vehicle
Last year, Kubota introduced an upgraded version of the midsize, gas-powered RTV520 UTV from its Rugged Terrain Vehicles family, sporting a new appearance and boasting improved operator comfort thanks to a redesigned seat with 30% softer material and an upgraded suspension. The RTV520 is still an undeniable workhorse, though, and Kubota says it offers the “perfect combination of beauty and brawn.”
Pick A Color
Kubota offers the RTV520, which it designed for mid- to large-area property owners and commercial contractors, in standard and deluxe configurations. The former is available in Orange or RealTree Hardwoods Camo paint jobs. Depending on the color, options are available for ATV tires with steel wheels or heavy-duty worksite tires with steel wheels. The deluxe configuration is available only in Orange, and provides the same tire options but with alloy wheels.
Customers can equip the RTV520 with an enclosed cab, a poly or upper glass windshield, a plastic or metal canopy, a plastic door kit, an acrylic rear panel, a wiper kit, a front heavy-load strut, and a rear cargo screen. Other add-ons include front and rear LED work lights, a winch kit, a front grille guard, an electric bed lift, a trailer hitch, a snow blade, and an accessory box.
The Brawn Behind The Beauty
Kubota says improvements to the UTV’s two-cylinder Kubota liquid-cooled EFI (electric fuel injection) engine result in quieter performance and reduced vibrations. EFI makes for easier engine starts in cold weather and instant power with greater throttle control. The engine produces a maximum of 17.4 horsepower (13 kilowatts), which it delivers to a beltless variable hydrostatic transmission (VHT). Dynamic braking and the VHT allow for one-pedal vehicle operation; Kubota says even novice drivers will find operating the UTV easy.
The UTV also benefits from 4WD and differential lock functionality, and includes several features designed to protect various parts of the vehicle. For example, a built-in screen prevents mud, grass, and other debris from sticking to the radiator. Additionally, the underbody, bottom of the cargo box, and the operator’s station include added protection. The cargo bed’s large, 52.3-degree opening and closing angle makes it easy to get to important parts underneath, simplifying maintenance and repairs.
Attractively Capable
Kubota equipped the RTV520 with hill-hold support and an enhanced suspension system. The suspension features a five-link rear system that keeps the RTV520 from bottoming out and enhances comfort. When at work, the RTV520’s heavy-duty metal cargo bed, which measures 40.6 inches long by 33.6 in. wide (1,030 x 853 millimeters), give you 9 cubic feet (0.25 square meters) of space and the ability to haul loads weighing up to 440 pounds (200 kilograms). The bed’s dumping capability is enhanced by an optional cargo bed lift kit, and its steel cargo tie-down hooks make it easy to secure tools, supplies, and so on. The UTV has a towing capacity of 1,168 lbs (530 kg) for when you need to pull a trailer or tow-behind equipment.
Just The Right Size
Kubota says the RTV520’s 54.7-in. width by 74-in. height (1,390- by 1,880-mm) and tight, 21-foot (6.4 meter) turning diameter allow it to handily navigate narrow gateways and tight spaces and travel constricted paths. The RTV520 measures 105.1 in. (2,670 mm) long, has a maximum fuel capacity of 5.1 gallons (19.3 liters), and can reach speeds up to 24.8 mph (40 km/h).
