Honda Unveils The Affordable, Easy-To-Ride 2023 Grom miniMOTO

Honda recently announced its 2023 motorcycle lineup will once again include the Grom, a member of its miniMOTO lineup Honda says has “cross-demographic army of enthusiasts … with remarkable passion.” (Photo courtesy of Honda.)

Honda has announced it is returning its diminutive but popular Grom motorcycle for the 2023 model year, and says the third-generation Grom continues to reign as “the undisputed emperor of the miniMOTO world.” Introduced in 2014, the Grom has always been about enjoyment, Honda says. That’s due to its unintimidating, user-friendly driving experience, and the ability to customize it with a large number of aftermarket accessories and performance parts.

For 2023, the bike is available in standard and ABS (anti-lock braking system) trims, both providing two-up capability. The ABS version sports a Pearl White race-inspired finish, and the standard model comes in Matte Black Metallic, Cherry Red, and Force Silver Metallic color options.

    Make It Your Own

Honda says the Grom has been so successful that it has inspired the manufacturer’s retro-themed miniMOTO Monkey, Super Cub, and Trail 125 models. Part of the Grom’s popularity is connected to its four modular body panels that owners can easily remove and replace with custom panels. This works hand in hand with the Grom’s minimalist aesthetic, featuring a blacked-out engine and exhaust, as well as blacked-out wheels and a blacked-out swingarm on the Cherry Red and Matte Black Metallic models.

User-friendly maintenance and low operating and maintenance costs also factor into the bike’s popularity. For example, the Grom includes a replaceable oil filter, and its separate exhaust downpipe and muffler make for easier replacement. Additionally, the bike’s 2.5-liter airbox builds in a long-lasting panel-type wet-paper filter with 10,000-mile (16,100-kilometer) life under typical riding conditions.

    The Grom Up Close

Honda says the Grom’s PGM-FI fuel injection and 10:1 compression ratio makes possible the bike’s impressive 165 mpg fuel economy. Other noteworthy features include a five-speed transmission, which Honda says functions like a bigger motorcycle’s and provides comfortable cruising via the fifth gear. The bike includes a 124-cc two-valve, overhead-cam, air-cooled engine, a 31-millimeter telescopic inverted fork front suspension with 3.9 inches (99 mm) of travel, and a single-shock rear suspension with steel box-section swingarm and 4.1 in. (104 mm) of travel.

The Grom’s thick, padded seat sits as low as 30 in. (76.2 cm), and its curb weight is a manageable 227 pounds (103 kilograms). Other user-friendly features include an LCD digital dashboard with gear indicator, clock, speedometer, and tachometer, as well a fuel gauge and twin trip readouts.
