Honda’s CB500F ABS Naked Midsize Bike Gets Better Handling & New Paint For 2022

“Versatility” is the name of the game where Honda's naked CB500F ABS mid-size streetfighter is concerned. Honda says it has excellent fuel economy and can seamlessly transition from reliably getting you to work Monday through Friday to barreling down backroads on weekends. The bike adds several fresh features for 2022, including an attractively stealth Matte Gray Metallic color and an inverted 41-millimeter Showa SFF-BP fork. In addition to making the CB500F’s front end stronger, the new fork gives riders more precise steering feedback.

    That’s Not All

Also new for the CB500F are dual front brake rotors with two 296-mm discs gripped by twin four-piston radial-mount Nissin calipers. The rest of the bike’s brake system includes an adjustable front-brake lever and a rear 240-mm disc brake. Anti-lock brakes are standard.

The CB500F’s improved handling stems from its new, lighter five-spoke aluminum wheels, as well as a lighter swingarm. The swingarm is just as strong the 2021 model’s, but is more than 2 pounds (0.91 kilograms) lighter. The bike also receives a serious dose of comfort from its Honda Pro-Link rear suspension; it has 4.7 inches (119.4 mm) of travel, a single large-diameter shock, and nine-stage spring preload adjustability.

    The 2022 CB500F

Whether riding across town or negotiating a mountain pass, the CB500F is powered by a 471-cc dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine with programmed fuel injection (PGM-FI). By keeping constant tabs on several variables, PGM-FI matches the correct fuel mix to the current riding conditions and rain, fog, snow, or other present atmospheric conditions. Honda says the injectors are partially responsible for the CB500F’s ability to develop more power in the key 3,000- to 7,000-rpm range. Also worth a mention is the bike’s slipper/assist clutch; it requires 45% less clutch-lever effort but automatically locks tight when it’s released.

The CB500F has a light 416-lb (188.7-kg) curb weight, a 4.5-gallon (17-liter) fuel tank, and a 31-in. (78.7-centimeter) seat height. A passenger-ready step seat and passenger handholds are included, as is an LCD display with digital speedometer, tachometer, odometer, fuel consumption, and other vital info.
