Battery-Powered Project Triumph TE-1 Prototype Motorcycle Ready For Live Testing
A new, fully electric sport bike from Triumph Motorcycles is ready for a six-month period of live testing. A completed prototype of the TE-1 has emerged from the collaborative efforts of Triumph, Williams Advanced Engineering (WAE), Integral Powertrain, and WMG at the University of Warwick in the UK. Funding for the project came from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles through Innovate UK.

Because we have designed the battery from the ground up, design has not been compromised and we have been able to maximize the potential of cutting-edge technology, offering both performance and all-important range.”
WAE’s Role
WAE developed the Triumph TE-1’s battery pack with an integrated vehicle control unit, along with the bike’s e-powertrain system, new battery management software, and a compact DC-to-DC converter. The lightweight, 360-volt battery system was designed to produce more power for a longer time, perform well even when its charge runs low, and recharge from 0 to 80% in less than 20 minutes.
With its bespoke, 15-kilowatt-hour battery module, the TE-1 demonstrator delivers 174 horsepower (130 kW) of peak power and 107 HP (80 kW) of continuous power. WAE ensured that the battery and its controller are integrated with Triumph’s motorcycle control software, and designed the battery’s physical construction and frame position for optimal handling of the motorcycle.
Test results from the just-concluded Phase 3 of the project exceeded current benchmarks and targets set by the UK Automotive Council for 2025. Final battery level validation and calibration is now taking place to confirm that the bike’s performance continues at low levels of charge.
A British Triumph
Triumph will begin a live, rolling road and track testing program for the TE-1, expected to conclude in Summer 2022. The manufacturer plans for active track demonstration with final body panels at that point, along with publication of the electric motorcycle’s final specifications and range.
