Indian Motorcycle Bolsters Youth Motorcycle Lineup With All-New, Electric eFTR Mini
Earlier this week, Indian Motorcycle took the wraps off its brand-new eFTR Mini electric youth motorcycle, designed to provide young riders a gateway into riding. Smaller than the eFTR Jr. the company launched a year ago, the eFTR Mini is even more approachable and accessible to beginning riders, the manufacturer says.
High Or Low
The diminutive eFTR Mini’s design is patterned after Indian Motorcycle’s championship-winning FTR750 flat-racing model and is built on a high-quality, durable steel tube frame that’s 20% smaller and 50% lighter than the eFTR Jr’s. Additionally, the Mini’s 18.4-inch (46.7-centimeter)-high seat is roughly 5 in. (12.7 cm) lower than its older and bigger sibling. Other differences include a rigid-frame rear suspension designed for durability as opposed to the Jr’s monoshock rear suspension that provides greater comfort and shock absorption. Additionally, the Mini includes rear brakes only, while the Jr includes front and rear brakes.
The Mini weighs 48 pounds (21.8 kilograms), measures 43.8 in. (111 cm) long, and has a 30.9-in. (78.5-cm) wheelbase. The bike features a twist-grip throttle and electric powertrain with a 24-volt rechargeable battery that’s good for 30 minutes of riding. In Low mode, the bike can reach speeds of 10 mph (16 km/h), and in High mode the Mini can reach 14 mph (22.5 km/h). Low mode is designed to accommodate shorter riders eight years of age or older, while High mode is meant for riders 13 and up.
Gear Up
The Mini follows the same championship styling as Indian’s FTR750 race model. Indian offers a lineup of youth protective riding gear that includes an eFTR-inspired helmet, body armor, gloves, and Indian Motorcycle Racing replica jersey.
“The eFTR Jr was met with an extremely positive response from so many passionate riders and loyal Indian Motorcycle customers looking to share their passion for riding with the children in their lives,” says Ross Clifford, Indian Motorcycle vice president of parts, garments, and accessories. “With the eFTR Mini, we’re expanding our available youth offerings with an even more accessible option, allowing us to accommodate an even wider range of aspiring two-wheel riders.”
