Kawasaki Unveils 2021 Model Year KLX 230R Trail Adventure Motorcycle
Kawasaki is promising that riders can take their “trail adventuring to the next level” with its 2021 model year KLX 230 motorcycle, a six-speed, lime green-themed model “purpose-built for serious fun in the dirt.” Part of Kawasaki’s series of off-road, dual-sport, and super moto bikes, the KLX 230 off-roader comes in R and S variants. The R option offers a 36.4-inch (92.5-centimeter) seat and slightly larger dimensions as compared to the S version, which has a 35.4-in. (90-cm) seat. Both configurations use a 233-cc fuel-injected, air-cooled four-stroke single engine with two-valve SOHC (single overhead camshaft) low-maintenance design that’s tuned for low- to mid-range power.
New & Experienced Riders Welcome
The KLX 230’s powerplant pairs with an electric starter, spark-arrestor silencer, full-sized wheels, and long-travel front suspension with 37-millimeter front fork offering 9.8 in. (24.9 cm) of wheel travel. The bike’s Uni-Trak single-shock rear suspension is designed to smooth out the bumps and provide comfort and control on rugged terrain. Kawasaki says designing the bike’s engine and chassis simultaneously was key to enabling the agility, balance, and reliability the bike delivers.
The 2021 KLX 230R/S is a lightweight (254-pound; 115.2-kilogram) full-sized recreational trail bike. Streamlined bodywork, an aluminum swingarm, and a plastic 1.7-gallon (6.4-liter) fuel tank all contribute to keeping weight as low as possible, Kawasaki says. The R variant comes in at 80.5 in. (204.5 cm) long, 33.1 in. (84.1 cm) wide, and 47.2 in. (119.9 cm) high and offers 11.8 in. (30 cm) of ground clearance. The S configuration measures 80.1 in. (203.5 cm) long and 46.3 in. (117.6 cm) high while providing 10.8 in. (27.4 cm) of ground clearance.
