The 2020 Honda CRF250R Features Numerous Performance Updates To Help You Snare The Holeshot

In revamping its model year 2020 dirt bike lineup, Honda made a number of performance enhancements across its CRF family, which is designed for use in motocross, closed-course off-road, pure off-road, and dual-sport riding applications. One member of that family, the 2020 CRF250R, should be available now and priced at around $7,999, though dealer prices may vary.

Built To Start Fast

The 2020 CRF250R features a new frame and swingarm, new intake and exhaust valves, a new intake cam, and new head pipes to give racers more power when the throttle is all the way open. Honda says that the 2020 model has more torque and better drivability, thanks in large part to these revisions and an updated combustion chamber. The new cam profile in particular provides better bottom-end torque and power from the 249cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine while maintaining peak speed, Honda says. Honda also revised the piston accordingly; the CRF250R’s 79.0mm bore and short 50.9mm stroke create a high-revving engine and plenty of room for large valves.

Better Maneuverability

The 2020 CRF250R has stronger clutch springs that help riders smoothly manage the additional power, as well as lower battery position for a better center of gravity. Internal front-and-rear suspension updates, including a 49mm Showa fork on the front-suspension, also increase the handling and feel. For better rear-wheel traction, the CRF250R’s short swingarm (reduced by 160 grams from its 2019 spec) reduces the bike’s unsprung mass.
