BRP Announces Revamped Can-Am Defender & Maverick Utility Vehicle Lineups For 2020
In what it calls its “most advanced Can-Am off-road vehicle lineup ever,” BRP has announced a sizable list of updates, new models, and other developments concerning its 2020 model year work-oriented Defender and performance-centric Maverick utility vehicle lineups. Perhaps most notable is the introduction of an all-new Defender 6x6 H10 model that BRP says “delivers unparalleled traction and hauling versatility.”
Defenders At Your Service
Besides Defender and Maverick Trail, Sport, and X3 side-by-side vehicles, BRP manufactures Outlander, Renegade, and Youth ATV models under the Can-Am brand. The company also produces snowmobiles, watercraft, boats, engines, and more under the Sea-doo, Ski-Doo, Manitou, Lynx, Alumacraft, Rotax, and Evinrude brands.
For 2020, BRP gave the entire Defender lineup a redesign, including frame and front end refreshes. BRP also added more horsepower to provide what it claims is now an industry-leading 69 pounds-foot torque to go along with a 3,000-pound (1,360-kilogram) towing capacity. The power boost comes via a beefier Rotax engine outputting 82 horsepower rated power. The new 2020 Can-Am Defender 6x6 HD 10, meanwhile, features an adjustable box and six-wheel traction that the company characterizes as “outstanding.” Overall, the 2020 Defender lineup numbers a dozen-plus models.
Bernard Guy, BRP senior vice president of global product strategy, says that BRP is committed to the full-size utility/recreational segment, which he says is one of the market’s fastest-growing. “The 2020 Can-Am Defender family is the direct result of merging tangible insights from customers around the world with our own strict innovation standards,” he says. “The new Defender vehicles offer extraordinary adaptability, comfort, and dependability to help owners accomplish tasks with more confidence than ever before.”
A Maverick Makeover
As for the 2020 Can-Am Maverick lineup, it includes an all-new Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo RR model billed as “the industry’s most powerful factory pure side-by-side vehicle.” In addition to a 195-horsepower Rotax Turbo RR Engine, the X3 Turbo RR includes updated wheels and tires for enhanced off-road performance. The 2020 lineup also adds new Maverick X3 RS Turbo R and four-seat Maverick X3 MAX X MR Turbo RR vehicle packages. Elsewhere, the lineup includes a new Maverick Sport X XC model that BRP says “sets new standards for affordable performance for trail domination.” Guy says BRP’s “commitment to performance will never waver. The new Maverick X3 X rs Turbo RR, with its unprecedented power and control, is built to give Can-Am a stronghold in the sport side of the industry.”
