Suzuki Reveals New KATANA Motorcycle In Stunning Fashion
Suzuki Motor of America introduced its new 2020 KATANA sport bike at the 2018 International Motorcycle Show (IMS) on November 17 in Long Beach, California. Suzuki says this new model hearkens back to the 1982 original and is “inspired by the energy of traditional Japanese taiko drums, the strength and courage of a samurai, and the fine craftsmanship of a katana sword.” The company then personified that inspiration by hiring professional drummers from the Taiko Project and enlisting the help of Jordan Okubo, a martial artist, to cut through a cloak with a katana to reveal the motorcycle underneath.
The 2020 KATANA, which launches in the United States next year, and an original 1982 model, loaned to Suzuki for the event by the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, were on display during the IMS event at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center. There will be another opportunity to see the two motorcycles as well as Suzuki’s full 2019 model lineup in person at a second event in New York City from November 30 through December 2.
