Indian Motorcycle recently revealed two new models, the FTR 1200 and 1200 S, both of which are inspired by flat-track racing bikes. They take cues from classic Indian race motorcycles as well as from the FTR750, which the company released in 2016 and has been seeing quite a bit of success in the American Flat Track circuit. Although these new models share certain style elements with racing bikes, Indian says they offer the ride of a standard or cruiser motorcycle. The FTR 1200 will start at $12,999 and the FTR 1200 S will start out at $14,999, with both models hitting dealerships in the first half of 2019.

“Our vision from the beginning was to be more than a traditional American V-twin brand,” says Indian Motorcycle President Steve Menneto. “We continually seek to broaden Indian Motorcycle’s reach to a wider range of riders, and FTR 1200 represents a significant step forward in that strategy. Indian Motorcycle was founded on performance and innovation, and we remain grounded by our founder’s mindset of constantly pushing forward. In light of that history, the FTR 1200 is a natural extension for the brand that we couldn’t be more excited about.”

    Shared Standards

Both new FTR motorcycles feature a 1,203cc V-Twin engine that produces 120 horsepower and 85 pounds-foot (115 newton meters) of torque. They also feature Brembo brakes with ABS, Dunlop street tires with flat-track treads, ProTaper flat-tracker aluminum handle bars, LED lights, and a USB port for charging devices. The gas tank is located under the seat for better weight distribution, and the airbox is under the engine to improve airflow.

    Extra Features

In addition to the standard features you’ll find on both models, the FTR 1200 S has a few extras, including a 4.3-inch Ride Command LCD touchscreen display with Bluetooth built-in and three different ride modes: Sport, Standard, and Rain. Other special features include adjustable front and rear piggyback suspensions, lean-angle sensitive stability control, traction control, and wheelie mitigation control. The FTR 1200 is available in Thunder Black, whereas the FTR 1200 S comes in Titanium Metallic over Thunder Black Pearl, Indian Motorcycle Red over Steel Gray, and a Race-Replica design style that mimics that of the FTR750.
