Chalk Up Another Second-Place Finish For Roczen & Honda In Lucas Oil Moto Series
Team Honda HRC member Ken Roczen has earned his third straight second-place finish in 2018 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship series events by compiling 3-2 moto finishes riding a Honda CRF450R at the Washougal National in Washington. Roczen’s second-place finish at Washougal, the series’ ninth round, leaves him sitting third overall in championship points (330) with three rounds remaining.
A Great Day
After his second-place finish at the previous Silver Creek National in Millville, Minnesota, Roczen spent several days in California with Team Honda HRC getting more comfortable with the CRF450R. Team mechanic Oscar Wirdeman notes that Roczen also got a chance to ride the Washougal track pre-race, which enabled the team “to get things dialed in.” “I think we'll see Ken get another moto win before it's over," Wirdeman says.
Roczen struggled early on at Washougal, posting just the eighth-fastest lap in morning qualifying sessions. In the first moto, however, he pushed from sixth place after one lap to the lead position with two laps remaining before losing the lead for good. “I'm so close to another moto win, but I just need to put together that last five minutes,” Roczen said.
Too Lit
Honda introduced the CRF450R in 2002. The company updated the 248-pound (112.5-kilogram) bike for 2018 by omitting a kick-starter and adding as standard an electric starter powered by a lithium-ion battery. The bike sports a 449cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine and includes updated suspension settings, new ECU settings, and other features “optimized for modern MX competition.”
Roczen wore a special patch at Washougal that read “My Bikes Too Lit.” That’s the title of a song Roczen’s teammate Adam Enticknap recently released under the moniker “7 Deuce Deuce.” The song has been “popular in the motorcycle industry,” Honda says. Enticknap finished 28th overall on 33-32 motos in the 450MX class at Washougal. Team Honda HRC now heads to the Unadilla National in New Berlin, New York, on Aug. 11.
